welcome aboard, carter blumenthal, student #3. we are excited to set sail with you ! has anyone told you that you look like david corenswet? according to our records, you hail from toronto, canada, prefer he/they, are nonbinary, and are here to study photography. we also see you received a spot on the ss university because of your academic scholarship — we won’t tell anyone. during your first few weeks here, other students said you were encouraging, enthusiastic, but also stubborn. it sounds like you spend most of your time at the sun deck. upon checking your luggage, we noticed you packed the star of david necklace you got for your bar mitzvah. hopefully your roommates don’t steal it!
hi pals !! my name’s el, but you can also call me sophie if you want idrc, i use she/they pronouns, i’m in est, and this is my child carter whom i love !! more info beneath the cut !!
carter is muse #3, which makes them the step-sibling of muse 18, the best friend of muse 16, and the secret crush of muse 9 so.... hmu if you’re one of those three *eyes emoji*
but also.....
born and raised in toronto, his parents split up when he was in elementary school, giving them ✨abandonment issues ✨from a young age.
in middle school, his dad got remarried to muse #18′s mom - he wasn’t exactly a fan of sharing space in his life with other people, but he warmed up to them quickly, and can’t imagine his life without them - they won’t mention that they prefer their mom to their dad, but that’s a whole separate point. she got him his star of david that he wears to this day.
they were always athletic, but preferred books as soon as they learned to read - while they were excellent on the soccer field in high school, and they could’ve easily gotten an athletic scholarship to the college of their choosing, they spent more than enough time studying for every exam, trying to excel in every subject at their disposal.
he was never good at math, though.
they first picked up a camera as a freshman in high school, and it soon became like an extra limb. film photography is their preferred medium, but, as that isn’t always accessible, they have both a digital and a film camera in their repertoire.
he got accepted onto the ss university on academic scholarship - his grades were good enough for that - and photography was their major of choice. after all, what other opportunity will they have to travel (and photograph) the world? they hope to open their own photography studio in toronto after graduation, but he doesn’t have any plans set in stone - the waves will carry them as they will, and carter won’t be upset either way.
hmu for more plotting perhaps !! my discord is hellyeahelio #1730 if that’s preferred to you !!
duckie: i do kinda feel like you'd get bored of vegas after a month, you're not much of a vegas-style wild child!
duckie: maybe hitch a ride with one of the babes on the ship? i'm thinking of that myself. are you going home at all?
duckie: watch us get absolutely sloshed in vegas and kiss that $200 goodbye... i can just see it now! what's a game that requires no skill and a ton of good luck? i'll win it back for us before you can say 'mom, pls venmo me $10 for the bus ride back to the hotel'
carter: thank you for knowing me, duckie
carter: river invited me back to boston, but it still seems kind of crazy, you know? like it's not gonna be real until we're off the plane and i'm meeting their family
carter: but if we gamble in the hotel we won't have to spend $10 on the bus
carter: the game in question is roulette, though. no skill, all luck, just vibes
Jude: yeah... spending a month in vegas sounds like the opening to a bad rom com. are you doing anything with river for it??
Jude: i'm going home to new york for a week and then i'll be there to protect your wallet. i'm too scared of losing money to risk it fklngdfgndf but may the force be with you.
carter: i think i'm going back to boston with them, but it still feels kind of unreal that they want me to meet their family, you know?
carter: yeah, $200 is as much as i'm willing to risk but i totally understand the way you're feeling
carter: what're your plans for when you get back to vegas, if not gambling? maybe we could brainstorm fun ways to not lose all of our money together
river: i feel like you're always somehow surprised when i want to hang out with you. as if i don't constantly want that
river: oh but, you won't be able to stop me ;p
carter: i mean you're gorgeous and funny and the best person i've met in a long, long time, of course it surprises me that you want to hang out with me
carter: i think i've got ways to distract you, though
rico: i don't know do YOU think you can spend a month there? i know i can
rico: boobs, booze, gambling and again, boobs. what more could a girl want?
rico: oh...oh i shouldn't be in charge of that at all i'm not a good accountability partner i'll be there cheering you on as you lose all your money 😬
carter: okay i am here for you getting all the boobs you want, but i am happily taken and i don't know how much the booze and the gambling can hold me over
miles: you're pretty much free at this point because you don't have deadlines to look forward to.
miles: plus, if you have money, you can travel anywhere you want.
carter: that's true, and while i've got some money, i don't have a ton - i'd rather spend it while we travel instead of throwing it all away on plane tickets, you know?
carter: you know how much i'll regret flying to, like, venice if we end up in venice next semester?
mel: good point. shitty wifi doesn't help and losing money on black jack is a pretty dumb move
mel: there are like a million museums and aquariums to go to and concerts all the time. i'm sure you'll find plenty to do outside of casinos
carter: I'll see what I can do with commissions while I'm here - the hotel WiFi isn't exactly reliable either, but it's better here than it is on the ship
carter: Okay, fair, true. I appreciate the support, Mel
mel: people lose more than $200 in a day, there's no control in vegas. that's the whole point
mel: ill try my best but you can't get mad at me if you break your own rule
carter: I know that, but I also can't afford to lose more than $200 without taking on more commission work, and it's kind of hard to do commission work on a ship where the WiFi is unreliable.
carter: Thank you for trying, I'm gonna do my best to figure out things to do other than gambling in this city, you know?
