Xan nodded their head slightly, their smile widening ever so slightly. It felt nice that they could actually make themselves useful for once. “I’m really happy that I could help you! I hope that you’re able to locate him quickly, I know what it’s like to not be able to find the people you care about most… so don’t worry too much about repaying me. Maybe you could repay me with the simple gift of friendship? That’s not too much to ask for.”

Carter nodded in understanding, not feeling comfortable about not know where Hide was. “Friendship? I think I may be able to provide that. Though, I am unsure as to whether or not I am an adequate friend. I will do my best to be a high level friend,” he declared. “Friends give each other gifts, correct? I will gift you with clothes, chocolate, and flowers once I am able to locate Hide and those items.”

Loneliness was definitely an understatement for what Hide had experienced without the other… it was more like heartbreak. Or as Baymax would have helped him realize – his pain was a nine on a scale from one to ten. A shaky breath fell from his lips as he found himself leaning into Carter’s touch. “You shouldn’t worry about me too much… you have to take care of yourself now too since you’re human. I haven’t eaten or slept since I arrived, or have a place to stay… but that’s the least of my concerns.” He wet his lips out of habit, his throat and mouth beginning to feel quite dry. There was a pause of silence on his end as he stared down at his lap, his heartbeat beginning to quicken. “Do you really not remember us?” He murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

Carter gave the other a confused look before smiling slightly. “I will continue to worry about you whether you tell me or not -- this human thinking of mine has made me quite... stubborn, I think. I can take care of myself and you. I shall feed you ad ensure that you have a safe place to stay and sleep. I suggest we do that immediately --- I am uncertain how long you’ve gone without rest and food, but any prolonged amount of time is not healthy.” He paused for a moment when he heard the whispered question, brows coming together as he was unsure what Hide was implying. “Of course I remember us. You are my master and I am your creation. You taught all it is I know about interacting with others and how to give advise and assistance.”

“–Dad…?” Having always been a clingy child, Hideaki suddenly felt lost without his father’s presence. Tears welled up in the boy’s eyes as he collapsed on a bench, his legs tired from searching this strange place endlessly. “I wanna go home…” A small sob escaped the boy as he buried his face in his hands, shoulders slumping slightly in defeat.

Carter noticed the small child from afar and saw that he was distressed. Approaching carefully, there seemed to be something familiar other. It was only until Carter knelt down that he recognized the boy as Hide from pictures he’d seen from the other’s childhood. His surprise was obvious as he failed to make logical sense of the situation. But, he did still understand that this small Hide needed assistance. “Please do not cry, Hide -- I am here. I will take care of you,” he said, hand raising to gently pet the child’s head. “Would you like a hug and piggy back ride while I take us somewhere more comfortable?”

“You are hopeless,” Carter said, not even looking up at Hideaki. “You aren’t even trying to find a relationship -- why have you created me in the first place? I’m not meant to hand you one just like that and I won’t. You’re annoying and needy. Leave me alone. I have no need for your companionship and I hardly see it benefiting either of us. It seems to be an advantage to have forgotten whatever it is you believe we had.”

“Perhaps, but I do not believe there is a way to make that possible nor will the residents of this tow survive such an event. I would advise against it.”

Xan’s eyes lit up at one of the words, figuring that if Carter’s creator was from San Fransokyo – then he had to know Chris. “Well… I may not know this Hide, but I do know someone who might know him. Have you ever heard the name Chris? She’s this beautiful and brilliant girl from San Fransokyo, she invents things as well. It seems like if they knew each other, they would be friends. Maybe she could help you find him?”

Carter recognized who the other was mentioning, a smile gracing his lips. If Chris was here while Hide was without Carter, then Carter could be confident that Hide was looked after. “I do know her, yes. It’s good to hear that someone from home is here with him while I was absent. I will need to locate her and ask for his whereabouts. Thank you very much for your help. I hope I didn’t take too much of your time. If I can repay you for your information, do let me know.”

Hide would have been lying if he had said he wasn’t caught off guard by his companion’s questions, heart sinking in his chest with each word. While he was aware of the chip that was so wrongfully stolen from his possession, he was still oblivious to the true effects of what would take place in the aftermath. Apparently memory loss was just one of the many things he would be forced to cope with. It made sense – he just didn’t want to believe that this was his reality now. “I’ve been… I missed you, a lot.” He swallowed thickly, hand moving to sheepishly rub at the nape of his neck. “It’s been hard for me to think about taking care of myself or finding someone without you around.” Translation: How could I find someone else when I HAD you?

Carter’s head tilted to the side slightly, new emotions passing through him constantly. He had been aware that humans possessed many emotions and that many could occur at once, but he never truly understood how they worked until now. And, even now he still had no idea how to comprehend them. “I have missed you too. I’ve been looking for you and only until now do I realize that I was lonely without you. I hope you did not suffer loneliness too severely. But, if you have not been looking after yourself properly, we will have to mend that immediately. Have you eaten? How much have you slept since you’ve arrived? Do you have adequate shelter and do you feel any sort of sickness?” He asked, hands reaching forward to press against Hide’s forehead.

“And I feel the same.  In my limited experience, some emotions are good, but others can be bad, so if at all possible, try to stay away from them.  But it is wonderful to actually experience the sensations that our human friends talk about!  Especially taste.  I had never realized how wonderful food was!”

“I will try to keep this information available when I experience emotions. I have such a lack of understanding of these emotions other than their logical explanations that it should be very beneficial and interesting to learn of them through actual experience. I have not had the opportunity to eat as of yet. Should I eat now? It is required by my body to eat regularly.”

Xan was taken off guard by the sudden voice addressing them but that element of surprise didn’t exactly disappear as the boy spoke. A robot? They had met animals turned to people, and now a robot? This world only grew more and more strange with each passing day. “Um… I’m sorry I don’t know a Hide Hamada but maybe I can still help you locate him? What does he look like?”

Carter frowned slightly, but quickly recovered. “That is unfortunate, but understandable. He is a native of San Fransokyo, has brunette to black hair, enjoys sarcasm, engineering, and science of most forms. He created me and his father created my father, Baymax. He does not have much success in romantic situations.”

“I have!  Hide and Mina are both here!”  Harlie grinned, pulling away from the hug after a moment.  “I agree, but I enjoy being human.  I never realized how wonderful it was until now.  Oh, this place is very safe.  Perhaps even more safe than San Fransokyo.”

“That is very good news. I feel as if I have become lighter know that you are all here and safe. We should continue staying here if it appears to be safer than our home. But, I think I can agree with you. Being human is very indescribable. My insides keep changing states, but it is hard for me to know what they are exactly -- these emotions.”

After a few days of trying to acclimate to the current circumstance he was in, Hide well helpless. As a natural born ‘fixer’, he felt helpless that there wasn’t anything he could do to get home. A shaky breath escaped him as he stared off into the distance, eyes glassy and dull. That was until he heard a vaguely familiar voice, the words igniting a flame inside of him. It couldn’t be. Hide slowly turned on his heels to meet the other, his eyes wide. “Carter…? You… it’s me, Hide. Don’t you recognize me?”

Carter hadn’t expected to find his maker so soon, a bit confused he hadn’t been able to recognize Hide from behind. Usually, his system would be able to assist him with that. But, it appeared his system was strangely offline. He smiled easily, feeling a warmth inside of himself that could be classified as happiness and a lightness that was perhaps relief. “Master, I do recognize you. It is very fortunate I was able to find you so quickly. How are you? Have you been nourishing yourself correctly? Have you found any romantic partners since your departure?”

Harlie couldn’t deny that something seemed familiar about the man, and once she knew what it was, she was overtaken with pure joy.  not just the artificial happiness that she’d always been programmed with, but a pure rush of human emotion that was a bit overwhelming to her.  “Carter!”  She grinned, wrapping him in a tight hug.  “It’s me, Harlie!  We are both human!”

Carter hadn’t recognized who the other was until he found her shouting his name and hugging her. A smile came to his lips as he returned the crushing embrace, an unfamiliar feeling overwhelming him. “Harlie! I had not expected to see you in this place as I have not found anyone else that we both know. I am... very happy to see you. It is very interesting to feel emotions as a human. I hope you have been safe since your arrival here.”
