“--Dad…?” Having always been a clingy child, Hideaki suddenly felt lost without his father’s presence. Tears welled up in the boy’s eyes as he collapsed on a bench, his legs tired from searching this strange place endlessly. “I wanna go home…” A small sob escaped the boy as he buried his face in his hands, shoulders slumping slightly in defeat.
Carter’s head tilted to the side slightly, new emotions passing through him constantly. He had been aware that humans possessed many emotions and that many could occur at once, but he never truly understood how they worked until now. And, even now he still had no idea how to comprehend them. “I have missed you too. I’ve been looking for you and only until now do I realize that I was lonely without you. I hope you did not suffer loneliness too severely. But, if you have not been looking after yourself properly, we will have to mend that immediately. Have you eaten? How much have you slept since you’ve arrived? Do you have adequate shelter and do you feel any sort of sickness?” He asked, hands reaching forward to press against Hide’s forehead.
Loneliness was definitely an understatement for what Hide had experienced without the other… it was more like heartbreak. Or as Baymax would have helped him realize -- his pain was a nine on a scale from one to ten. A shaky breath fell from his lips as he found himself leaning into Carter’s touch. “You shouldn’t worry about me too much… you have to take care of yourself now too since you’re human. I haven’t eaten or slept since I arrived, or have a place to stay… but that’s the least of my concerns.” He wet his lips out of habit, his throat and mouth beginning to feel quite dry. There was a pause of silence on his end as he stared down at his lap, his heartbeat beginning to quicken. “Do you really not remember us?” He murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.
“ Oh That is a… Genius idea. “ Ella replied, sarcasm clear in her voice.
A small scoff fell from the boy’s lips as he tried to resist the urge to roll his eyes, “Yeah and I suppose that YOU have a better idea?”
Ryuu grinned, sticking his tongue out before bending down and waiting for the other to hop on. “Nope, you’re not allowed to turn it down and I really can’t help being tall – it’s definitely not genetic. My mom is really small and my dad is slightly below average, so who knows where I got the height from. My br– Haru is tall too…” He said, voice trailing off. He had to remind himself that Haru didn’t want a brother, so it wasn’t in Ryuu’s right to call him one. “Come on, I think I have some nice cookies at home too. You can have those while I help your hand,” he said, quickly changing the subject and plastering on a smile.
Hide was quick to pick up on the despondency in the other’s tone at the mention of someone named Haru, his brother, or so he could surmise. Not wanting to push his luck or upset the boy who was being so kind to him, he found himself skirting around the topic. “Try telling that to my family, both my mom and dad are perpetually short and then there’s me.” He chuckled softly before stepping forward and assessing the jump he would have to make to get onto the other’s back. “You had me at cookies,” he teased before hopping onto the other’s back, legs instinctively moving upwards to cling to the other’s sides.
Celia missed the Avengers compound. She missed her nice warm bed, she missed the atmosphere that made her feel safe, and most of all she missed the people that lived there. Unaware that anyone was around, she let out a sigh. “I wish Daddy was here.”
Seeing the younger girl sitting alone just didn’t feel right to Hide, there was something inside of him telling him to check up on her -- especially since she reminded him of his own little sister. Though when he approached the girl and heard her statement, he could feel his heart sinking into his chest. “I’m sure your dad really misses you.” He plopped down beside her, giving her a sympathetic smile. “I wish my dad was here too… he always knows what to do and I just -- I feel really alone lately. But, you don’t have to feel alone. I can accompany you for now, I know I’m probably not the same as your dad but I can try to be there for you if you need it.”
Ryuu shook his head, knowing how strange it must be for anyone – even he as a spirit who saw many ‘strange’ things everyday thought this situation was weird. “It’s okay – at least we met, right?” He gave a small smile, still happy to meet new people. “I fell out of the sky too, but I was lucky enough to fall in the lake near here. Good thing you didn’t fall from too high up.” He didn’t listen to the other when he said he was fine, turning and kneeling so the other could hop onto his back. “It’s okay – don’t feel bad. I need to help you, so please accept the offer? It really won’t be any problem and I’ve always wanted to give someone a piggy back ride!”
At least they were in the same boat here and had something to commiserate over, a warm smile gradually appearing on Hideaki’s lips at the other’s kindness. “Me and water don’t go well together, so maybe I’ll settle with my current circumstances.” He chuckled softly before hoisting himself, legs feeling weaker than he initially expected them to. “Okay… I think I’m going to have to accept that piggyback ride -- not that you would let me turn it down.” He teased, eyes crinkling slightly. “Do you want to bend down a little so I can hop on? You’re too tall for your own good.”
Harlie grinned and let out a soft giggle. “Thank you. Oh!” She reached into her back pocket and took out a bandaid. “That I can provide.”
Hide gave a nod of thanks as he reached out to take the bandaid, further examining the scrapes for a moment before unwrapping the bandage and placing it on top of the cut. “Thank you again, Harlie.” He bit down on his lower lip before pulling himself up off the ground. “Do you have any idea how we’ve gotten to this place…?”
Carter hadn’t expected to find his maker so soon, a bit confused he hadn’t been able to recognize Hide from behind. Usually, his system would be able to assist him with that. But, it appeared his system was strangely offline. He smiled easily, feeling a warmth inside of himself that could be classified as happiness and a lightness that was perhaps relief. “Master, I do recognize you. It is very fortunate I was able to find you so quickly. How are you? Have you been nourishing yourself correctly? Have you found any romantic partners since your departure?”
Hide would have been lying if he had said he wasn’t caught off guard by his companion’s questions, heart sinking in his chest with each word. While he was aware of the chip that was so wrongfully stolen from his possession, he was still oblivious to the true effects of what would take place in the aftermath. Apparently memory loss was just one of the many things he would be forced to cope with. It made sense -- he just didn’t want to believe that this was his reality now. “I’ve been… I missed you, a lot.” He swallowed thickly, hand moving to sheepishly rub at the nape of his neck. “It’s been hard for me to think about taking care of myself or finding someone without you around.” Translation: How could I find someone else when I HAD you?
Her mouth dropped open a little as she covered her hand over in shock. “Hey, not every girl likes shopping..” she shook her head. “I don’t hate it, but it’s definitely not something I’d choose to do, given the choice.” she wrinkled her nose a little as she shrugged. “I was thinking, given the actual opportunities I’ve seen here so far, we can.. Eat, or drink.. or go to a fair, or the arcade. I wonder if they have like laser tag or something there, that looks fun.” she nodded softly. “I would love to go surfing, but as far as I’ve investigated, there’s no ocean near by.”
Hideaki was actually impressed by the choices that were offered up by the girl, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “A girl who prefers going to arcades or playing lazer tag over shopping. Where have you been my whole life?” He teased, a small chuckle escaping him. “It’s a bummer you can’t surf though, you could have taught me -- but that also means I would have also embarrassed myself by wiping out probably a couple dozen times.” He bit down on his bottom lip in thought. “Though to make up for it I’m sure we could find an arcade around here that has lazer tag, and good food. Why not hit it all while we can, right?”
Carter stumbled as he found himself in this new place, scanning his surroundings – and himself. He knew he had no mechanical workings underneath this flesh as he had not the same type of access to the information he knew. He approached the nearest person he found, politely greeting them. “Hello. I am Carter – Hide Hamada’s Caretaker and Romantic Training Expert Robot. I was wondering if you could inform as to where we are located and where I can locate Hide Hamada.”
After a few days of trying to acclimate to the current circumstance he was in, Hide well helpless. As a natural born ‘fixer’, he felt helpless that there wasn’t anything he could do to get home. A shaky breath escaped him as he stared off into the distance, eyes glassy and dull. That was until he heard a vaguely familiar voice, the words igniting a flame inside of him. It couldn’t be. Hide slowly turned on his heels to meet the other, his eyes wide. “Carter…? You… it’s me, Hide. Don’t you recognize me?”
‘ There can be cute, witty science pick up lines and then there’s that one. Get some new material dude. ‘
‘ Seriously? I think you might be the one here who needs to reevaluate a little bit… step one: googling where you can find a better sense of humor. ‘ Hide scoffed, tilting his head to the side. ‘ If you think you can do any better, let’s hear what you’ve got. ‘
“It is a good different, right? I still look friendly?” Harlie smiled. “Are you sure you’re not in need of medical assistance?”
Hide nodded his head slightly, a look of disbelief still clear on his face. “It is, you look really pretty.” A smile spread onto his lips as he looked back down at his hands. “I’m sure I’ll be okay, I could probably use a bandaid though.”
Ryuu had seen the boy fall from seemingly nowhere, shocked for just a moment before rushing over to help him up. “Hey, hey – are you okay? I don’t know a Baymax but I’m Ryuu.” He paused when he saw the blood on the other’s hands, swallowing harshly at the sight of it. He’d always been weary at the sight of blood, but ever since he lost his powers that only intensified. Clearing his throat, he gave the boy a shaky smile. “How about we clean this up and I can tell everything I know, okay? Everything will be fine. Every one is really nice and I’m sure your Baymax will pop up sooner or later too. I was later when it came to me popping up in relation to my… Well, should I carry you?”
It took a moment for Hideaki to process that someone was actually speaking to him, his hands trembling slightly partly from the stinging and the other half from anxiety. “Sorry that we have to meet under such strange circumstances, Ryuu… it’s not everyday you basically fall out of the sky.” He let out a weak laugh before shaking his head at how utterly crazy this all was and sounded. “But thank you for offering to help clean this up, I feel bad that upon first arrival I’m already being such a burden to strangers. I swear that I’m not usually this needy…” He pursed his lips before scanning the other over. “You really don’t have to carry me, I would feel bad -- plus I think my legs are fine.”
“I am not Baymax. I am Harlie, and although at home that was an easy mistake to make, I did not think it would happen here.” She bent down, taking one of his hands and examining it. “You are hurt. On a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your pain?”
“H-Harlie…? Is that really you? You look so different.” It was just like Hide to state the complete obvious, even when he was consumed with pain. “I… it’s about a four, I’m okay -- really… especially now that you’re here.”
‘ You call that a pick up line? No wonder you’re single. ‘
‘ Oh come on, dude… that pick up line was golden! Anyone with at least two brain cells can appreciate a good science based pick up line. I’m sure Bill Nye would have appreciated it… though not that I would flirt with Bill Nye, but you get my drift. ‘
