He’s Flim! He’s Flam! Aaaaannnnd they’re the Flim Flam Brothers! ...Well, at least Flam made it to the decorating part. Sorta. I bite off WAY more than I could chew with this idea. (Drum Snare) Flim sadly broke off after the first coat of icing, and these two had so many different colors, my coloring pipes started to shift in hues and nothing was matching by the end of the day. Bummer. Poor little guy left his brother behind. 

Here’s some extra behind the scenes I thought you all my like! I get asked a lot how I see the figures within the cookie itself. I usually will draw up a sketch and then make a stencil out of wax paper. I carve the stencil out of the dough with a fine and tiny knife. Then I start outlining the character with edible food markers, or food coloring with a paint brush. Once I block out the sections of the character that I know will be different colors, I start filling in the sucker with royal icing. After it dries I start painting on the outlines (like the hair and faces) and reapplying layer after layer of design on top of that (like the white stripes in Flam’s hair). 

I bought apples just so I could take a cool background shot! I had to eat apple flavored things all week. What a hard life I live.

Hello, hello!

I bake cute and overly complicated cookies in my free time and I’ve decided to make a blog just for them. I’m hoping all of this will lead to a cookie cookbook one day as some lovely people have suggested that I put together. Until then, enjoy the sugar overload. I know I will.
