Hooked On Facts
Today we fact-check the latest piscatorial pictorial effort from the Courier Mail's Sean Leahy, who gives us a fish-eye view of the other side of a recent military training exercise mishap.
As two fish watch over four inert bombs that have been dropped amongst the rich coral life, one wryly asks, "THIS is how they protect our Great Barrier Reef Marine Park?"
We rate the claim that a fish living on the reef would refer to it in such an awfully formal way: a right load of scallops.
His fish friend replies, "Apparently the GOOD news is they're on our side!"Â
It is unclear whether this is a direct quote or simply a product of Leahy's imagination; if the former, it is hardly representative of the majority view of the aquatic world.
We do not mean to suggest for a second that fish are politically aligned with the Axis Of Evil, but only in the most Utopian fever-dream of the most ardent peacenik would anyone consider them to be on the side of the United States.
Most fish despise all humanity, and would see this latest dumping as just another in a long line of provocations that must be tolerated until the seas rise sufficiently for them to make their move.
We rate the claim that fish belong to the Coalition of the Willing: DEEPLY FISHY.
