Jentry Chau vs the Underworld OC

So with Tianyu Miao (AKA Jade Huàng) I really wanted to do something kind of the opposite of the show. So with Jentry having the Yellow Emperors powers and dealing with demons and Diyu and stuff, I wanted Tianyu to be the daughter of the Jade Emperor, who is basically the guy who runs heaven in Chinese mythology.

After the events of the show, the Jade Emperor recognized that he couldn't have someone with the Yellow Emperors powers roaming around Earth willy nilly, at least not without someone keeping a close eye on her. So the Jade Emperor sends in his daughter as an undercover spy from Heaven, to spy on Jentry and really see what kind of person holds the Yellow Emperors powers.

The Jade Emperor doesn't believe a mere mortal human couldn't be corrupted by the Yellow Emperors powers, so Tianyu is sent to Earth as Jade Huàng to study what makes this Jentry girl so special to not be corrupted by such a power that she possesses.

I'm sketching out her power form right now, but since she is the daughter of the Jade Emperor, I imagine her with some large wings, and some kind of purifying water powers. Kind of like anyone that she comes into contact with or wanders into her water magic is revealed if they are human or demon kind of thing. And maybe some astrological magic too like her father. She is super into stars and such because it's kind of her legacy to know.

Yes there will be major emotions and conflicts where Tianyu realizes who Jentry really is as a person, because before her Father sent her to Earth she heard the stories of "The Girl Who Holds The Yellow Emperors Powers" most of them had been twisted by the Jade Emperors right hand man and aren't true.

I also love it when names have meaning so!

Tianyu (tee-an-you) means "heaven and earth", "universe", or "boundless sky"

Miao (mee-ow) means "sprout" or "seedling"

All in all she was a lot of fun to design and draw and I can't wait to share more about her! :D

The Doomies review

The Doomies is a french series currently broadcasted by Disney, and you can feel that the rat didn't censor anything. This feels very much like a french cartoon series: funny, but genuinely emotional and with nightmare fuel.

The story takes place in a coastal town in France where two kids, a beacon operator/amateur magician and "the Chosen One" fight all manner of evils. The characters are relatively well developed and the threats are creative and credible, though this leads to an issue.

See, this season seems like two seasons smashed together. This leaves a gap at the midway point, and makes the first arc villain underdeveloped. It's possible Disney is just dumping the whole show to get rid of it as soon as possible, but I hope that's not the case.

A strong recommendation.

Jentry Chau fans, this feels worth sharing.

A Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld presentation panel is happening at LightBox Expo 2026, along with a character design demo from one of the show’s artists. I’m really happy to see the show still getting attention in animation spaces, especially since so many fans are still hoping for more.

No extra details yet, but definitely keep an eye on this.

Will There Ever Be A 'Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld' Season 2 on Netflix?

One of Netflix’s most stylistically unique animated series of 2024 was undoubtedly Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld. Despite high critical pra

But yeah this soft cancellation is basically what I’ve been expecting. With how Netflix treats its media I don’t think we’re getting a second season. Which sucks, because it deserves one and there are a few plot lines that need to be resolved.

Part of the problem is that Netflix didn’t market the show at all. I found out about it from some posting the opening credits on tumblr. Advertising often falls on the shoulders of showrunners these days, which shouldn’t be the case because their job is to make the show, not market it. So Netflix dropped it in late 2024 and swept it under the rug, just like with a dozen other animated shows.

Another part is timing. If it got released a bit into 2025 it definitely would’ve gotten a lot more traction. Kpop demon hunters got no Netflix marketing, got dropped mid summer, and they literally took over the charts. Jentry needed something like that to gain a media handhold (Also yeah I’m kinda spiteful because I do think Jentry is a lot better than kpdh. Sorry but the movie’s pacing is weird af and the show was able to pull stuff off better.)

It’s really a mixture of executives screwing it over and luck. It happens in the entertainment industry, and while I’m not happy about it, it is what it is. The team put their blood, sweat, and tears into this show and it shows. They had a lot of passion for it and that’s what makes me more sad about the situation. But now a year or so later everyone on the crew has moved on, it’s going to be rough rehiring everyone if they even bother to go that far.

My hopes is that the show gets rediscovered some time in the future and becomes more mainstream. It doesn’t need an extra season (although it can use one to wrap things up), I honesty just want it to have the attention it deserves. Maybe another alternative is that another studio buys it and continues it (unlikely). I wish they released merch because I’d 100% buy an artbook or comic continuation. Both because it’s awesome and I wanna support the creators who got screwed over in all of this. In this really shitty economy and all the AI crap going around, it’s more important than ever to support human creators (and small business in general).

At this point I’m on the lookout for people posting any visual development or production art from the show. A bunch of it was posted right after release but I doubt that’s everything. I always love behind the scenes work. I collect it like a raccoon. If anyone knows how to compile stuff into a book format hmu because I have no idea how to do that and I’m half convinced to just make an artbook pdf myself out of spite. I’m also planning on archiving it because I don’t trust Netflix at all.

But yeah, it’s a great show, if you watch it come join us we’re a small group but we’re cool I promise

This pretty much sums up how I’ve been feeling too. It really does feel like a mix of bad timing, poor marketing, and how animation gets treated right now. What makes it hurt more is knowing how much passion the team clearly put into the show.

I’m still choosing to stay hopeful, even if it takes time. I’ve been posting clips here and there just to help keep the show discoverable and in circulation, because I don’t want it to quietly vanish when there’s still so much to appreciate about it.

That’s actually why I started a Season 2 petition in the first place just in case something like this happened.

What makes this scene more impactful was the fact that Jentry burned those robes, destroying her chance to get rid of her powers again. She’s making the choice to keep the powers rather than risk someone else taking them again. Jentry gets the agency to make her choice unlike the first time.
