You want a story? Okay, I’ll tell you a story.

Did you ever hear of Macha the Owl Witch? Well, she’s evil. You know the island out at sea? It’s called Mac Lir. It’s called that because it’s not an island at all, it’s a huge giant. Macha’s owls took all the giant’s feelings and turned him to stone. And you know the worst of it? She was his mother! He was her first victim and she hasn’t stopped since. To this day, all the fairies are afraid to come out on Halloween night because if they do, Macha’s owls will find them and take their feelings and turn them to stone.

AW: Do you have any particular message or theme that you would like to deliver to the audience of [Wolfwalkers]?

TM: Yes, I suppose ultimately the film is about seeing beyond the assumed boundaries of society and its expectations of us. That we can transform ourselves according to our true nature and find our “tribe”, as it were, without having to mold ourselves to fit our society.

Finally watched Song of the Sea and I really loved these dogs. I’m also pretty sure they were Irish Wolfhounds (which is my patronus, according to Pottermore). So I wanted to draw them.
