Jillian Michaels - Maximize Your Life Tour
http://youtu.be/qogYIrcPNiI
Last night I went to the Jillian Michaels' Maximize Your Life Tour...alone. I love that I am starting to not mind going on my own anymore...there's that fear of being alone and by yourself, but a good fear that I'm facing...to show myself that I can do things on my own and don't need to rely on other people to do things that I want to do.
Jillian did such a wonderful job addressing both the nutrition side of things and the emotional side of things. I really enjoyed her show and would for sure go see her again!
So what I want to do today, is go over some of the notes I took during her show...not only to share what I think was most important but to remind myself of what I need to work on. So thank you Jillian for making me think deeply about these important topics:
Jillian's Nutrition Points from the Show:
Be mindful of what you are eating. Look at your food quality and food quantity...that's the key. (Well that, and eat less) Watch out for "obsenegens", chemicals in your food that disrupt our bio chemistry and make us fat.

If you cannot afford organic, do the Clean 15, but avoid the Dirty Dozen!

Find $20 somewhere each week to put towards your meat and dairy. (Dairy: almond, coconut, or rice) (Meat: Grass fed, no hormones or antibiotics (which cause a lot of digestive issues in humans)
Check out the photo below, on the left is a corn fed cow that is pumped full of antibiotics and hormones...the one on the right is a grass fed cow. Pretty gross huh? It's just amazing what we put into our body without thinking about it!
"You've got to move your ass to lose your ass"
Forget your BMI, worry about your BMR! Know how many calories you burn while doing NOTHING! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/tools/bmr-calculator If you can figure that out, you'll be well on your way to understanding your body and how to lose weight. This way you know what you have to burn and what you have to eat.
Find your MHR (Maximum Heart Rate):
To determine your target heart rate, you should first figure out your maximum heart rate (MHR). This is done by subtracting your age from 220. For example, If you're 32, check it out: 220 – 32 = 188 (so now you know your MHR is 188). Then take 85 percent of 188, which gives you 160, so that's your target heart rate — the ideal number of times your heart should beat in one minute when I'm training. The easiest way to keep track of your heart rate is by wearing a heart rate monitor. If you don't want to spring for one, no problem — just find your pulse, either on your wrist or on your neck (usually right next to your larynx), count the number of times your heart beats in 6 seconds, and then multiply that number by 10.
Use HIIT (high intensity interval training) to help with MHR:
Do a Push Circuit Monday and Thursday
Do a Pull Circuit Tuesday and Friday
Do a minimum of 4.5 hours a week and maximum of 6 hours a week.
"What does healthy look like in your life?"
This is a question I need to ponder a bit more. I really need to set my focus and think about what healthy looks like to me and think about why I got fat. I know the weight protected me from something detrimental, so as part of my journey, I need to figure out what all of that was. I want to be living the life I should and not the life others want me to live. I need to stop living for others happiness and focus on my own...that's what I should be living for. All these things I do for other people (buying them cards, flowers, giving compliments), I need to do that for myself. I need to celebrate the small victories, like when I was at Malibu and I was able to hold that damn medicine ball above my head and run up and down that damn sand hill! THAT was a victory for me...I NEVER thought I'd be able to run up and down that sand hill, let alone with a 10 lbs medicine ball above my head! That's something to celebrate...and NOT with food! ;-)
So the other day I talked about how I was ready for it to be my time. That I am tired of things happening for others and I was ready for it to finally be my time. Jillian talked about this...how you have to be ready to go out and be awesome and she addressed the Responsibility Sandwich. (Shame, Regret, Fear, Judgement, Responsibility, Obligation)
http://youtu.be/WMlxnfohkKo
That nothing makes these people better than you or more deserving than you, so go out there and be the best you can be. And with a little patience and bravery, you can make your dreams come true too. Make that choice to step out on that branch and face your fears and go for that dream, whatever it may be, and it will eventually pay off. Stop putting trust in everyone else but yourself...trust yourself and live big...be awesome!
"Feeling Lost and Stuck?"
So if we're lost, how do we become found? Listen to your feelings, don't push them down. Look at the times you're happy and do more of this. How do you go about figuring this out? For one week, write your feelings down and what you are doing, every hour on the hour.
Why do I want to get healthy and lose weight? That's another thing I need to ask myself and address. I want to be able to find my soul mate and get married, I want to be able to see my Goddaughter grow up and get married. I want to travel and be able to enjoy playing tennis and badminton again. That's why...
So there's many obstacles that get in my way of my why... like the responsibility sandwich, temptation, emotions, etc. I need to learn to be present and think of the choices I'm making in my lifestyle and what the consequences are...if that choice doesn't' bring me closer to my why then I shouldn't do it. Like if I make the choice to eat those M&M's, what are the consequences and will that bring me closer to my why?
I find that candy, sugar, salt, chips, dip, cake ....all these trigger foods are big temptations in my life and I need to make sure I remove them so it doesn't fatigue my will power. I need to make sure I'm setting myself up for success! One of my goals is to make a motivation board and home and and work so that I can see this everyday to help remind me of my why.
Along your journey, you're going to need people. People that are there for you and people that support you in what you are doing. But there are going to be people along the way that are going to try and drag you down or judge you because they are disappointed in THEIR life. Those are the ones to leave behind...build a new support system.
I feel so lucky that in just 5 months time I have built my new support system! I have met so many people along the way...at the resort, at the ranch, at the finale, at Jillian's tour...it just keeps growing. I feel so fortunate to have come across these people and to have built my own Biggest Loser family. It amazes me how it keeps growing and how it is connected.
Don't forget to also be a good support system to others... LISTEN and COMMUNICATE! Try and feel what someone is feeling from what they are saying. Communicate your needs to them in a clear and calm way. Use an "I" statement and not a "you" statement.
I bought my ticket a while ago through a pre-sale. Little did I know that I had VIP tickets to Jillian's show. That meant I got to stay an extra 1/2 hour for a Q&A session with Jillian, Danni and Janice. It was an amazing surprise to stay and be apart of some many stories and questions that a small part of the audience had. I definitely left feeling inspirited!
