the librarians, on cassandra cillian and a little corner of her room
(i admit i’m a few episodes behind and idk if we’ve been shown her room yet, but this was written under the assumption that we have yet to see it)
~
she has a shelf in her room filled with bits and bobs collected over the years she’s spent as a librarian. from silly souvenirs from all over the world, to mementos from jobs the clipings book sent them, or just her, on.
in the very middle, in place of honor, there’s a trophy made of heavy glass. ‘first place in the category of mathemagics.’ ezekiel had said, silly proud smile on his face, and ‘you won it, without a doubt.’ and cassandra can’t help looking at it every time she comes back from a mission well accomplished.
on either side the trophy are two framed photos. one, taken after they defeated prospero and flynn and eve came back, and they’re all happy and smiling and hugging. she remembers the mad dash to find a nice pose before the timer went off, how she’d been against them just standing there.
so they ended up with a photo in which flynn dipped a surprised eve, ezekiel hugged cassandra like he was trying to expel all breath from her body, while jake and jenkins leaned on each other’s shoulders, laughing at the rest.
the other photo is only of cassandra herself. and while it might be a bit weird to have a framed photo of herself, she makes an exception for this one. ezekiel had taken her to the very top of the eiffel tower at sunrise on her birthday (he and jacob had been trying to one up each other in birthday gifts for her, all while thinking she wouldn’t notice, the sweet idiots), and immortalized her in a moment of breathless happiness.
so the photo is of her, her arms spread wide open and hair ablaze, and half of paris behind her painted in the reds and golds of sunrise. the smile on her face says “i’m alive, i’m here, i’m on top of the world”.
there are days, when the hallucinations are too much and she feels like the seconds and days and years remaining until her chosen date both drag by too slow and rush by too fast. on those days, cassandra looks at her little shelf, with its knick-knacks and the trophy and the photos, and finds it easier to ground herself.
she focuses on the glass orb, on the smiling faces, and when she breathes, the world is solid and real again.
Time: All I Have Left.
Jake wandered into the Annex and found Ezekiel right where he knew he would. The thief was going over blueprints of another museum. You’d think with all of his free time, he’d have cased every museum and stolen all the things that needed to be stolen. Jake didn’t bother to scold him about it.
“So Cassie told me something interesting,” Jake said as he wandered up to the table.
The thief didn’t even look up from the table. “What?”
“I don’t know. It’s pretty crazy.”
Ezekiel internally sighed, but knew Jake too well at this point. He met the older man’s eyes. “What did she say?”
“She told me that she told you she liked you.”
“I’m Ezekiel Jones. I’m awesome.” He rolled his eyes. “Of course she likes me.”
“I think she meant it in a different way.”
Ezekiel held Jake’s gaze for a while before dropping his eyes. “Well, I didn’t get that when she told me.”
“She said you ran out of there pretty fast. What? Ezekiel Jones get scared?”
“How many times do I have to tell you?” Ezekiel traced his finger along one hallway, committing the landmarks to memory before rolling the blueprint up. “Ezekiel Jones doesn’t get scared.”
He started towards the Back Door.
“Except he’s running,” Jake chuckled, his arms over his chest. When he watched Ezekiel slow before stopping, he couldn’t help but smirk.
Ezekiel turned around and huffed. “Look, what Cassandra said is between herself and me. I don’t have to explain anything to you.”
Jake glanced down at the ground, adjusting his stance, as he said, “Well, she told me so that I could talk to you. Since it seems you refuse to talk to her.”
“Oh, you’re the messenger now?”
Jake scowled at Ezekiel’s cynical tone. “Jones, from what I understand, Cassie really likes ya. Only God knows why. But I figured you felt the same way.”
Ezekiel refused to drop eye contact this time. Jake wasn’t going to win. “Fine, you want the story?” He shifts his weight onto his other leg. “I told Cassandra that I’m not really looking for another mistake.”
“That’s—”
“And I’m not saying that being with Cassandra would be a mistake. I’m saying that I know I’d end up getting my heart broken. It’s already going to kill when she… and we’re only friends. What happens when it becomes more? I’ve invested my feelings before and it just hurts trying to fix everything afterwards.”
“So what? You’re just never going to date anyone ever?”
“Flirting is better than dating. No one gets attached and I don’t get hurt.”
“Except you’re already attached and you’re only hurting yourself and Cassie by not being with each other.”
“I’m fine with being friends.”
“She bares her soul to you and you just want to be friends? Cassie’s not going to be with anyone else. God and Cassie know how long she’s got and she doesn’t spend her time with anyone but us.”
“So what? Date her out of pity?”
“Not pity. Because you both want to.”
“Not if it ends in heartache.”
Jake stormed around the table. “Jones, listen to me. Love ain’t easy.”
“I thought it was family.”
“Life ain’t easy. There are risks you take. You’re a risk taker.”
“About things that aren’t going to hurt me!”
“YOU COULD END UP IN JAIL!” Jake exclaimed.
“That’s not going to hurt, because I never get caught,” Ezekiel snorted. “Look, I like Cassandra, fine. But I refuse to be hurt if I can avoid it.”
Jake shook his head in dismay. “Well, she wants you to know that she’ll wait as long as you need her to.”
“She didn’t—”
“You think I’d lie about Cassie? Not to her. And frankly, not to you either.”
Jake’s stare was too intense. Ezekiel needed to get out of there. It was almost as bad as when Cassandra had said those words to him. He backed up while simultaneously setting the Back Door. Then he disappeared through it and Jake could only sigh.
“Thanks for trying,” Cassandra said, entering the Annex.
Jake looked over his shoulder at her. “He’ll come around.”
“Maybe.”
“Give him time.”
She shrugged. “It’s all I have to give.”
Odd. I thought I knew everyone in our line of work.

Secret Santa
@thatfuckingdumbass Eli! My man! I am your Secret Santa. Suprise! I hope you enjoy some Casekiel angst!!!!
Ezekiel could barely contain his giddy excitement. After months of flirting and awkward shuffling Cassandra had finally agreed to go on a date with him. He was filled with a sort of child like exhilaration. He had to make himself look more handsome than usual. He had to impress her. He had a lot of work to do.

Ezekiel Jones hated Narrows. Short for “Straight and Narrow,” pristine and polished goody two-shoes, always on the right side of the law, the side Ezekiel liked to visit every once in awhile like coming home for the holidays to remind you what you absolutely do not miss.
Jake Stone was a Narrow. Always saying, “Ezekiel, don’t do this; don’t do that.” Perhaps in time he could be corrupted, but he’d have to do something about that stick up his ass first.
Cassandra, though. That had come as a shock to him, learning Ms. Perfect Manners and Morals wasn’t actually so polished after all. She slipped a stolen necklace around his neck - magic, no less, magic Flynn and Baird and Jake had made her promise not to use - and took his heart as payment.
“Come back to me,” she whispered, kissing his lips softly. “And never tell the others I stole the magic necklace.”

i wrote casekiel christmas fluff! it’s cute and short and has dancing and mistletoe and jenkins playing matchmaker because its not my fic if jenkins isnt trying to make cass happy
Cassandra buys a lot of christmas sweaters for her boyfriend. He allows her to put them on because she likes to trace his stomach, his ribs, his chest when she does.
She takes off his shirt and runs her fingers over every scar, all along his edges. She fixes her eyes right at his collarbone while she does, slightly downcast to see his bare torso.
He likes the intimacy. How she knows every part of him, and loves every part of him. Knows things no other human has known about him.
And then she puts the sweater on, leaving her hands to linger at his hips, and pressed a kiss against his lips.
He loves the way her eyes light up when they stand next to each other, arms around waists, and stare into the mirror. “We match!” she exclaims excitedly, every time, without fail.
Ezekiel Jones doesn’t get sentimental for many things, but somehow, Cassandra Cillian brings it out in him.
Cassandra Cillian, dying from the first moment, living with death always looming. Fearing it, running from it.
Ezekiel Jones, craving death, searching out the danger. Feeling worthless, always running towards the next big adventure.
Cassandra Cillian, meeting the one person who didn’t treat her as fragile, breakable.
Ezekiel Jones, meeting the one person who took care of him, treated him gently.
Cassandra Cillian, realizing that dying wasn’t so scary if you loved every minute until then.
Ezekiel Jones, realizing he should slow down, push death off for as long as he could, just to spend a little longer with her.
