In 1967, a race official attempted to stop Kathrine Switzer from competing in the Boston Marathon by grabbing her shoulder and trying to rip off her bib number, yelling at her to ‘’get the hell out of my race and give me those numbers!’’ However, the man was shoved to the ground by her boyfriend, who was running alongside her, and Kathrine became the first woman ever to finish the race. It wasn’t until 1972 when women were officially allowed to compete in the Boston Marathon.
