Hey everyone!

I’ve been waiting to make a post about my thoughts about She-Ra because it’s been so much to take in, I almost don’t believe it’s real. 

But I saw a post that really upset me today so here it goes. 

If you think headcanoning Catra and Adora as lesbians is inherently biphobic, please just unfollow me. 

First and foremost I want to say, I don’t care if you headcanon them as bi. It doesn’t bother me in the slightest to each their own. If it makes you feel seen and represented, go for it!

What does bother me is that post reeks of lesphobia. It is very upsetting to finally really feel represented by something and then have someone tell you you’re a terrible person for not seeing it their way when both characters don’t have confirmed sexualities, other than they are interested in women. 

Do you know what kind of representation we as lesbians get most of the time? Because I’ll just tell you. It’s highly sexualized, it is dehumanizing, it is typically made for cis-het men. And when it isn’t they kill one or both of us. Because lesbians can’t be alive and happy according to Hollywood. It is rare that I see something so moving and powerful as She-Ra and Catradora. I can’t tell you a single other time I felt so seen by something that I was brought to tears while hysterically laughing. I can’t tell you another time where I sat there and had to tell myself over and over again that it was real. That this really happened to me, that I got to live long enough to see this. 

People saying this kind of thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It is one thing to crave representation and see yourself in these characters and headcanon them as your sexuality. It is another to blatantly disrespect lesbians and call us biphobic when a literal lesbian created this show and the interpretation of these characters. When I literal lesbian fought for this show to become reality.

So please ask yourselves before you call people biphobic for seeing them as lesbians: do I need to evaluate my bias against lesbians? Because most of the time when bi people come forward I completely understand where they’re coming from. But this is one of those times that reminds me of all the straight people who cannot fathom me not liking men and shaming me for it. This reminds me of people I’ve met who act like my sexuality isn’t “enlightened” or that I’m not “open enough”. That I will realize that my identity isn’t real or valid miraculously. 

Please, as someone who loves this fandom, be kind to each other. And for the love of god stop invalidating lesbians. We are real and we matter.

It drives catra up the wall that she’s a princess by marriage. She can’t say anything about it because her princess-hating days are behind her. But it makes her want to rip her hair out every time anyone dares to call her “Princess Catra” to her face. (The only exception is when she’s called “Princess Consort to She-Ra, Princess of Power”. Lesbian tenderness about being A Wife overrules ingrained princess-hating protocols, obviously).
