Map of Stairwell/ Fire Tower
This map of the Whitney Hall stairwell/ fire tower is fairly easy to navigate. There’s really only two directions a person can walk in this space, up or down, depending on what floor the person is trying to reach. In this space, up is the direction of walking to the next floor above where a person is standing until they reach the ninth floor and cannot walk up any higher. In contrast, a person would then have to walk downwards if they are trying to reach the floors below them until they reach their destination as well. This space is very confined so I drew it boxed in from the bottom floor to the very top. The only ways to get out are the doors I drew located on the left that appear every two flights of stairs, except for the bottom floor that appears after the first flight.
POST 3-MAP
This map is located at the site I chose for this project, Monkey Face in upper Bidwell. This map is directed towards those who have decided to hike to or around Monkey face. The importance of this map is to help hikers reach their goals by providing important trails. The dotted line on this map represents the main trail to reach Monkey face. while other trails are not dotted, they are still represented by either a blue or white line. This map not only shows trails to a desired location, but also where restrooms are available, as well as a local gun club. The “up” direction on this map is focused towards Monkey Face, but also provides more above. This land above Monkey Face includes a few longer trails. Unfortunately their was no scale located on the map, but rather to the side simply stating how long each trail was. This map is interesting because it is just made of many shades of blue, and a little bit of black and white.
As I lay in my room after a long day at the airport I don’t hear much movement from my own cluster since my roommates all have mid afternoon classes. What I do hear is the girl in the cluster above me stopping her feet listening to the same Calvin Harris song over and over but as that begins to...
When I entered the stairwell in Whitney Hall, the closing and opening of the door and the shuffling of my feet were the first sounds to reach my ear. After listening for a little bit, I noticed a reoccurring pattern in the sounds I was hearing that I had actually just created and...
Lassen’s Voice
On warm sunny days, the Lassen Lawn draws people out of their dorm rooms. The sound of loud music, various conversations, and friendly competition fill the air, creating a hum of activity. We are all gathered in one community center, but accompanied by our own groups of friends. Each clique is completely oblivious to each other’s specific conversations, allowing the other groups to fall into the background noise of their life. The overall noise of everyone blends together, forming a comfort only found in amity. Lassen’s voice is happy, playful, energetic, and young. This is the sound of my community.
Vast Natural Beauty
Nature has always held great beauty in my eye, so when I chose my place to observe obviously the first thing my mind went to is nature. This picture was taken at the Peregrine Point Disc Golf Course located in Upper Bidwell. I was shown the golf course several weeks back and went back to explore more and to find my place to observe. I came across this spot and simply thought it was one of the most beautiful views. The picture doesn’t do the view itself justice. When at my place of observation it is hard to tell but there is a cliff leading into a valley in front of me. this provides me with a great vantage point of the valley. I notice many tree in the valley, and everything is very green at this time of year. There are subtleties you pick up on too after closer observation. upon closer observation bike and hiking trails can be seen meandering through the valley and trees. There is also a canyon with the creek running through it. There is a sense of quiet and serenity that comes along with this place too. the only sound to be heard was the rustling of leaves and of the leaves gently blowing. this place is definitely a great place to enjoy the serenity of nature.
“Peaceful Space”
One day while leaving class from Glenn Hall I noticed a small pathway near one of the small bridges crossing over the Chico Creek that passes through the campus. As I walked along the pathway I realized that it was beginning to feel bit more relaxed. Which was an odd feeling considered that on the walk back from class I am usually surrounded by the hustle and bustle of other students.
Nature is usually seen as uncomfortable, usually full of bugs, dirty, and for any persons worst nightmare it is technology free. There is no plugs to keep electronics charged, there are no comfy couches or chairs to sit on. There are only rocks, leaves, dirt, a few bugs, maybe a bit of wind, the sun and or rain, and then theres you.
All that considered that is why this spot is my favorite space on Chico State’s campus. It allows me to be away from the rush of students and teachers alike hurying to get to class. It lets me free myself from having to worry about the latest tweet on twitter or a picture on instagram. I get to sit on the soft leaves surrounded by the woodsy smell of the earth and just relax and be free with my mind.
Who’s is this one? We can’t tell from you blog name, so let us know!
