In my heart, Adam in the new universe is a fiction author. He still has that charm & that boundless imagination & penchant for rich storytelling, even without the Hell of it all. His novels would be 600 pages of straight up wild bullshit and they'd be so captivating.
Idk, I just think so often about book!Adam writing a shitty eight page book as a little kid & about the fact he couldn't read comics because they didn't match up to his own imagination.
In my heart the longer version of s3 would've seen Jesus/Josh escape Heaven in search of the Antichrist who disavowed his destiny; so that he can learn how to do the same.
Crowley finds out Jesus is missing from Aziraphale and has the wonderful idea of knocking on Adam's door because heyyyy, old buddy, you're The Adversary, Prince of This World and Lord of Darkness, if I can use anyone as a Jesus-sniffing dog it's his Biblical nemesis meant to bring about the End Times!
But Adam is just like "no I haven't sensed anything, everything feels So Normal, and completely unrelated this is my boyfriend Josh." And because I think it was hilarious in canon that Crowley didn't recognise him. He still doesn't in this version. Just "fair enough have a good normal day bye"
Sighs. We could have had such a good story line if Jesus had gone to earth to search for Adam. Heaven and its overbearing Plans leading to him seeking out the only other person who's been in his position, albeit from the Other Side. Not only been in his position but been in his position and broke free of it. Two sides of the same coin and all that.
I actually really liked the Good Omens finale. It's the ending I would have wanted, and I totally get that it's not for everyone, but I'm not looking to argue about that.
I do take issue with one thing, though, and it's that I feel like we got so little time to explore the new universe whatsoever. I know, logically, that Newt and Anathema / Gabriel and Beelzebub / Maggie and Nina will have found each other, but I wish we'd gotten to see it. As it stands, we've just... never seen the new versions of them. The versions of them we've met are in a universe billions of years gone, and I wish we knew where they were in the end!
Even for the non-Crowley and Aziraphale characters we did get to see, we barely know what's going on outside who they're kicking it with. How did Muriel and Eric meet? How did Josh and Adam meet? Are The Them around? I wouldn't change the ending, but I would have loved an episode just exploring and feeling out the new universe.
Josh and Adam knew they'd meet someday - even though they didn't know what they were waiting for. New universe, sure, but they were made to cross paths. Their meeting was supposed to be The End Of The World. It's what they were made for billions of years ago. On whatever day it was they met before they grabbed a pint in that pub together, they both felt that whatever it was they'd been waiting for was going to happen.
