“I know you don’t, Cas.” She replied softly and letting her hands fall to her sides. They had grown up together, been through so much with one another that she had gotten the chance of getting to know him in every way possible but one. At his question, she nodded and then let a soft chuckle escape his lips. “I know I’m not the best at dropping hints but I thought that maybe you would have picked up on my crush on you. When you did finally kiss me, it was like a million shooting stars. You know, like when we used to swim up to the surface to watch? That’s how it felt inside of me! It was like nothing I’ve felt before. Yes, how I feel about you. I only want to be with you.” There were so many questions left unanswered and it hurt her knowing he was so troubled with them. She wanted to be there for him and respond to everything but there was so much that she didn’t know where to start. “I don’t care about antiquated law. I will not marry if it’s not for love and you know the clause! If I fall in love and chose my suitor before one is chosen for me, the law is null and void. I have a full year.” She smiled and took his hands in hers. “That year and the years following…should be ours.” She sighed softly. “I want to stay wherever you are.” And before she could say anything else, her eyes closed shut when his lips pressed against hers and she wrapped her arms around his neck, her fingers interlacing against his neck, fingertips grazing his hair and pulling him closer. It was just like she remembered. Just like that, she forgot everything. The law, the school, the letter, everything that was placed between them was no longer a factor and there was only one thing on her mind.
Shooting stars.
The memory caused a half smile to form on Caspian’s lips. As much as his disliked the surface world, he had to admit that the stars were beautiful. It was the one thing they didn’t get to enjoy in Atlantis. Caspian couldn’t imagine the feeling of a million shooting stars, but he knew what she meant. It had been the same way for him. In that moment it hit him like a ton of bricks, weighing heavy on his heart - there was no way they could actually be together. It didn’t matter how much either of them, wanted it. The princess didn’t know the whole story and he wasn’t sure when she would. Pulling away from the kiss, Caspian hesitated before pulling all the way back and opening his eyes to look at her. The King’s words rung in his ears as his smile slowly faded. You have to stay away from her, Finley. She’s to be married within the next few months. It’s been planned out already. “I don’t think that’s a good idea, Sirena. That year should be spent with you preparing for your future husband and with me preparing to join his guard. It will be a big transition for the both of us. Who’s to say your future husband will even want me to continue to be your personal guard? He might send me back to your father. I just think we should focus on preparing for reality. The law may be antiquated but it’s still the law and you know your father will want you to marry a prince of his choosing.” Letting his arms fall to his sides, he took a step back. Putting distance between them made the most sense in the moment.
