Cyclops #3.

Yup. This is by far, the coolest Cyclops moment since he called his X-Men team an equivalent of a nuclear weapon. Probably my favorite issue so far. It has everything I have wanted since it started.

Scott and Mei interactions, Scott teaching Mei the RESIST protocol, being uplifting and patient with her. Scott acknowledging how he is perceived by others. Scott’s patience, training, perception, pragmatism, and brutality is all showcased in this one issue.

Scott warns this goon that he needs those glasses for everyone’s sake. He tries to reason with him. It doesn’t work and chaos ensues. He has Mei make a impactful and difficult move, it’s dependent on their survival and the other captive mutants.

Mei strikes the other goon and she sees that she brutally incapacitates them, which sends her into a state of shock and panic. She runs off into the forest. By this point, Scott’s glasses are broken, Mei has run off and Scott is pissed.

He does what he has to.

He blasts the goon with his optic blasts and we get another proper look at how destructive Scott’s powers are. They aren’t lasers! Scott then takes the weapons and DRAGS Tearjerker along for the ride. Scott reiterates that he’s sometimes the hero, but that he’s also a soldier.

Excellent issue.

yeah actually we removed the big bad wolf from the little red riding hood story because portraying violence against minors is really messed up. yeah. yeah also the wolf narrative was really predatory and had had some icky grooming vibes and a fable meant for literal children shouldn’t have implied p*do shit and grape so now little red riding hood goes into the woods and nothing happens and she goes to grandma’s house. don’t worry our kids will still stick to the path and know not to follow to wolves implicitly because we told them to and children should always do as their told. just like little red riding hood does now.

I want to preface this by saying I can understand your frustrations with the X-Men fandom and I’m not trying to pick a fight or lecture you or whatever. In fact feel free to ignore this. I’m just a bitch who cannot keep their mouth shut.

Claremont is pretty clearly anti-Israel as well as any Apartheid state, as seen in the Genosha and Savage Land arcs. Just because he highlights Jewish characters like Magneto and Shadowcat doesn’t make his work Zionist. The conflation of Jews and Zionism can actually be quite harmful and anti-semitic (though I’m sure that’s not your intention) Also have you read the New Mutants? Because that is a very diverse cast. And Storm is not in any way a diversity hire she’s the star of the book. Yes there should always be more diversity and inclusion of queer and POC stories in comic books but reducing the Claremont run to a white-centred and zionist story is extremely reductive. Especially with so many POC characters pivotal to the story such as Storm, Mirage, Gateway, Karma, Sunspot, Forge, etc. I understand if you have problems with X-Men fans and there are certainly problems with the Claremont run such as fatphobia, racist depictions of asian and middle eastern characters, etc. but I would advise against making blanket statements like this.

the original 80s new mutant run is crazy because chris claremont is like lets put these children through the absolute wringer i dont want them to have another trauma-free day for the rest of their lives and bill sienkiewicz is like message received and draws them in these crazy sharp angles and deep shadows with like extreme contrast. read the demon bear arc its actually horrifying
