My 2026 new year’s resolution was to watch more movies, because normally I prefer watching like 8 season long shows. So this year I decided to lock in and create a letterboxd account to track my progress. I made this blog purely because, for me it’s easier to document my watching experience on tumblr since I’m more used to its layout.

Anyways this blog is going to be insanely pretentious and shit, if I like it I might consider making one for my books too.

fandom etiquette as a whole died when people who didn’t grow up on fandoms became stans during lockdown, yes, but why am i seeing people openly mocking fics on twitter. why am i seeing screenshots of fics with captions like “bro what is this 😭.” why am i seeing people mock fic writers for not knowing how sports or theater or college or any other organization operates in the real world.

“college is absolutely nothing like this” “why are we writing four people on the team scoring a hat trick in one game” “so tech work is nothing like this, hope that helps!”

if you don’t like a fic, and if you can’t suspend your belief enough to enjoy a fic that exaggerates or ignores real-world orgs, you don’t have to read it. you don’t have to screenshot it and put it on blast for twitter. you don’t have to post a link to it in the replies. the back button is literally there on your phone. it’s not giving baby’s first fandom anymore, it’s giving entitled asshole and it isn’t as cute as you think it is.

Eighth grade

(Directed by Bo Burnham btw 😭)

I just watched this movie a few days ago and this is like one of the best representations I've ever seen of being a teenage girl. Kayla is such a cute main character, and I honestly loved the YouTube video narrative that Burnham was going for.

The scene at the pool party and "putting yourself out there" has to seriously be a canon event for literally every single girl. They way every girl at the party was skinny and wearing a bikini except for Kayla was genuinely so unbelievably realistic to what the average girl has to experience.

Another thing I really liked is Kayla's development throughout the film. At the start, she was keen on getting a boyfriend even if he treated her horribly but by the time the film was wrapping up she realizes that she should be with someone who cares about her because she deserves it.

She has such a raw experience at the hangout with her "friends" at the mall. The getting talked over or waiting for them to stop talking so that she could maybe say something is something that's so common while meeting literally anyone new ever.

The experiences she faces at school are so real too, talking to someone and they are quite literally ignoring you to YOUR face is such an embarrassing canon event tbh. Kayla is honestly such a strong person for dealing with such ass conversations like all the time 😭😭

I honestly couldn't believe that BO BURNHAM directed this movie. He did a terrific job at encapsulating the teenage girl experience and teaches people that middle doesn't end your social life, you're allowed to be quirky and messy in middle school because middle school isn't the end of your life and Kayla realizing that at the end of the film and choosing to embrace her personality was so beautiful.

Personally I really enjoyed this movie, it isn't a cinematic masterpiece but it's a great watch and I think everyone should watch this movie at least once for fun.

All about lily chou-chou

(Spoilers ahead)

I watched this movie near the end of 2025 and I will literally never be the same ever again.

The cinematography was genuinely amazing and I felt like the directors did an incredible job with it. The soundtrack is also incredibly well done and I still have some songs stuck in my head.

The movie itself, at first ,had a pretty confusing narrative but when I began to understand it I started to enjoy it a lot more later on. The brutal depictions of bullying were really difficult to watch and it makes the film a lot more disturbing from an outsider viewpoint. Yuichi was an extremely interesting main character, especially since his character has little to no influence over anyone at school (besides Tsuya maybe). The only influence he has is when talking about lily chou chou on the ether under the alias “philia” .

The Kyoto sequence of the film is probably my favorite part and the events that take place in Kyoto are the reason for the main plot. Hoshino almost dying several times and his family’s factory shutting down, makes him realize his lack of power against his bullies was going to keep him useless forever so he began to retaliate in a probably even harsher way.

I found the dynamic between Hoshino and Yuichi before and after Hoshino rebelling incredibly fascinating. I think maybe Hoshino felt after becoming a terrible person basically, that yuichi’s calm demeanor was irritating and that he needed to enforce power over him. Hoshino under the alias “blue_cat” was so much more vulnerable than hoshino was in real life to Yuichi.

I think the more interesting parts of the film were (for me) the parts that focused on Tsuya and Kuno. Tsuya was more loud spoken and silly than most of the characters and Hoshino’s blackmail to keep her in prostitution drove her to try and lookout for any kind of freedom even if it meant suicide. Kuno on the other hand was shy and timid, she wasn’t a prostitute but the girls at school treated her like one for having male attention she didn’t ask for. (Yuichi being one of the males who were interested in her) Kuno had never been rude to towards the girls at school even giving them the lead role in the school choir but apparently that wasn’t enough I guess. The assault Hoshino planned against Kuno literally wrecked her and the scene itself was genuinely the most difficult and disgusting moment in the film. I read a lot of theories on why he even thought up of something so horrible and many people assume its because she introduced him to lily chou-chou. Yes, Hoshino was very depressed and had a horrible time alive but that never excused him being the reason behind what happened to Kuno ,or what happened to yuichi.

The ending of the film was perfect and there was no better way to end it. Yuichi stabbing Hoshino, was I think in a way revenge for everything he had done. Not just what happened to Kuno but what happened to everyone because of his actions. “Blue_cat killed philia figuratively, and philia killed blue_cat literally”

This is the perfect example of a coming of age story and it explores almost every single problem a teenager can face, beautifully. The one thing that brought all the characters together was lily chou-chou’s music and in a way that’s incredibly meaningful.

1.5 stars off , because the movie is a bit boring at first and some of the bullying scenes were genuinely so intense I personally couldn’t handle it.
