TIFF Summer 2011 Highlights
The sun is shining and that means summer is on it’s way here in Toronto, and for movie enthusiasts this brings a great new reason to spend a little more time indoors this summer. This summer will be the first for TIFF Bell Lightbox and there’s a lot to look forward to. Summer 2011 at TIFF will be characterized by a major exhibition, special presentations, film series and exciting new releases.
During June 30th – September 18th the summer exhibition will showcase two Fellini films, Fellini: Spectacular Obsessions, which is about the Italian film director and screen-writer is said to be a must see . From June30th to August 26th Fellini/Felliniesque: “Dream” Double Bills will compare 12 Fillini films with 12 other films and Days Of Glory: Masterworks of Italian Neorealism will be shown from July 28th to August 29th and it will feature a month of neorealismo films- a genre which Fellini worked in extensively.
A couple special presentations to take note of this summer include the powerful Egypt Rising: Portents of Revolution in Recent Egyptian Cinema from (June 15th to June 19th), which will feature six films about the on going issues in Egyptian society, and Summer in 70 mm (July 28th – August 12th), the second season of the series that will be showing some great classics, including Kubrick’s Spartacus.
The film series this summer is what’s making people most excited. Some Family Classics will run matinee screenings of classic Disney movies old and new from June 11th to August 20th, while The best of Midnight Madness will screen from June 11th to August 20th, will feature late-night screenings of gory favorites from the festival.
