MetroNext Public Meeting - Feb. 6
Feb 6 Public Meeting for Montrose on METRO Long-Range Plans In the coming months, with our help, METRO will decide what major transportation projects the Houston region will invest in over the next 20+ years to address the continued tremendous growth that is expected to come our way. The transit agency has released a draft METRONext Moving Forward Plan and is asking for our feedback to help them in finalizing a plan that will make a real difference in the options we have for moving around the city. The final plan will form the basis for a referendum on the November ballot seeking borrowing authority for METRO to fund the planned projects. Please join the Neartown community at this METRO open house, learn from METRO staff about the projects being considered, and share your input on what’s important to you: WHAT: METRONext Public Meeting WHEN: Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 6:30 – 8:30 pm WHERE: The Montrose Center, 401 Branard St., Room 107 (Recommended routes to avoid construction) Learn more at www.metronext.org.

Castle Court Neighborhood Association Board Meeting
The Castle Court Neighborhood Association Board recently met and discussed scheduling an annual meeting and possible meeting topics. Since we are into summer months, we are looking at sometime in September. We are checking with venues in the area to host our meeting since we have lost Maria Selma. We will conduct our business meeting of electing new officers. FYI, I am planning to move sometime in the fall. Please consider coming on our board and taking an office. It’s a good time to energize our civic club interests in our neighborhood and our Montrose communities. Some topics of interest that we discussed:
- Ongoing community discussion of metro plans for university line
- New task force formation to look at pedestrian safety in our Montrose communities
- Upcoming call elections- Montrose TIRZ
- Other topics of interest to our community
We’ll keep you updated!
Joellen Brayshaw President CCNA
Greetings Neighbors, CCNA, along with neighbors will be holding a gathering this Saturday evening, November 18. This is the last day for Maria Selma operation. Please drop by and say good bye with us. Maria Selma has operated in our neighborhood for many years. Rene Hidalgo, owner, has been an asset and a friend to CCNA and our neighborhood for years. He was always available to host our annual meeting and other functions. As the Astros went into the post season this year he set up a large screen and projector on the patio. We will all miss Rene and his restaurant. Rene has plans to open in another location sometime in 2018. Please drop by and please extend this invitation to everyone.
Hope to see you there!

Kick off the Holidays in the Montrose District & come celebrate with us!
The Montrose Management District (MMD) is pleased to announce a neighborhood celebration of the Houston Astros’ wins, American League Title and advancement to the World Series. To honor the team and the city as it unites behind them, MMD will change the Montrose bridge light colors to blue and orange. The lights will remain in the team colors as long as the Astros are in the World Series.
MMD’s new Executive Director Ben Brewer will be on the Dunlavy St. Bridge from 6:00pm to 7:00pm on Thursday, October 26th, to greet residents and hand out Astros-themed snacks and spirit swag. All Houstonians are encouraged to wear their Astros ‘colors’ and come stand on any one of the seven bridges (Montrose to Hazard) over Interstate 69 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm as a show of support for their home team.
National Night Out
Join your neighbors in Mandell Park Tuesday, October 3, at 6PM. Board members will be grilling burgers and hotdogs for you! You may being a side dish or a dessert if you like. Drinks will be provided. Please come. We hope to see you there!
Special Meeting September 19 with TxDOT about demolition of the Montrose Bridges
I received two emails from the president of First Montrose Commons. I realize that some may be dealing with flood damages at this time but I wanted to alert our community of this meeting being planned with Tx DOT about the upcoming freeway work. First email invites CCNA members to attend a meeting with TxDot concerning the closing of both Montrose bridges before and during HWY 59 construction, due to start in 2020. However, funding is available now for preparation. Second email confirms meeting date and more information Please let me know if you plan to attend.
Joellen Brayshaw President CCNA [email protected] _____________________________
Early in August a group of us from Neartown met with engineers at TxDOT HQ to discuss the first phase of the I-45North Improvement Project. This first construction phase involves the demolition of the two Montrose Bridges over US59/I-69 and the lowering of the freeway to the same grade as the rest of the freeway west of there. It soon became apparent that TxDOT was not aware what in important major thoroughfare Montrose Blvd is, nor had they discussed any traffic management or detour plans while the bridges are gone. Since our neighborhoods will be directly impacted – probably more severely than during the original 59 and Spur 527 construction- it was agreed to establish an ongoing dialog between TxDOT and affected Neartown neighborhoods.
I have managed to secure Rooms 106-107 at The Montrose Center (401 Branard at Bute St.) on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 from 7:30-8:30pm for the first of these meetings – a dialog with TxDOT about the Montrose Bridges. I have invited Westmoreland, Roseland Estates, Audubon Place and of course my own neighborhood of First Montrose Commons. It appears that we will have enough room, so I’d like also to invite residents from Castle Court to attend
I’d very much like to invite your residents to this important meeting so that we can all learn exactly what TxDOT plans, and perhaps find ways to mitigate the effects on our neighborhoods during the project. Please contact me as soon as you’re able to let me know if Castle Court can attend, and if so, approximately how many chairs should we set for you.
Don’t hesitate to email or call me with any questions – my cell is 832-655-5657. I look forward to hosting your neighborhood on the 19th.
Steve Longmire
President, First Commons of Montrose
