“Well that’s a shame,” Lucius rolled his eyes. “Do I need to remind you that I’m not the one whining about a headache?”
“A simple request for you to be quiet Lucius, is not a whine.”
She was wary still. There was so much to worry about and sometimes she felt like Cad didn’t worry enough, but that wouldn’t get her down today. “Baby Delacour will be fine,” she rolled her eyes as they stepped into the fireplace together. “I’ll name them after you when you marry me, we’ve been through this and you aren’t winning the argument.” Her hand never left his as they fooled away and arrived at the hospital.
Calliste led them over to a reception desk, where they were directed through the maze of a hospital to a waiting room and told their doctor would be out in just a moment. In the brief pause where they were left, Calliste turned to her boyfriend, biting her lip. “I’ve been thinking… after this is done, we should- I want to start tell people, the people we trust. It’s not like they won’t know soon enough but… well, some people might just think I’m putting on weight.” She trailed off with a slight laugh, wrapping her free arm back around her stomach.
“Baby Black.” Cas muttered under his breath once again even after Calliste had tried to correct him, not wanting to let this drop. His child would be a Black, so help him, no matter what she said. He’d convince her someway or another. “I told you that I’ll marry you Callie, but in my own time. You can’t be expecting it, you know. It defeats the object of the whole proposal.” Cas rolled his eyes at the woman as they made their way over to the reception desk, and he then followed her through the hospital which seemed like a never ending labyrinth of hallways that all looked the same, before turning to her with a grin on his face.
“I don’t want you to feel like you have to tell people, Callie. But I want to. I want people to know that you’re mine and that you’re having my kid and that we’re happy. Don’t you?”
“I think these glasses look pretty fly on me. I stole them from my nephew.”
“I’m sorry, can I help you?”
“Not true,” Calliste pouted slightly, the corners of her lips still upturned. She didn’t know why she was so excited. Honestly, the pregnancy so far has been a mess of nerves, worry, and still just the tiniest hint of regret. Not that she minded having children with Cas. It was just the manner and the timing of the thing. All the same, she rolled her eyes at his drama and kept her high spirits, kissing him back when he pecked her lips.
“You know me too well, darling,” she chuckled, lacing her fingers through the hand that rested over hers. “I got the Floo set up, so we can just go that way.” She pulled him in the direction of the fireplace, ignoring the nerves that did evidently still remain in some capacity. More nerves about what if something was wrong, what if it was her fault. A million what ifs that she was trying desperately not to think on. She wondered if Cas sensed her worry because her hand tightened around his as she hesitated by the fire place.
“So very true.” Cas teased her back in response, still happy to see that the smile on her face wasn’t faltering, despite his faffing around. He had never seen Calliste so excited about anything before, which is why this was amazing -- she had a smile on her face about something that they had created together, something that she had been so wary and nervous about, but that had now seemed to change,
“I do, yes.” He grinned, pecking at her lips once again as she moved to take his hand, and he gave her fingers a soft squeeze. “Floo is good. Easier for you and the little Black, as well.” he glanced over at her, gauging her reaction at the child’s surname that he would continue to press until she accepted it. Picking up the floo powder once they were inside of it, he dropped it and clearly stated the name of the hospital that they needed to go to, feeling the familiar pull in his stomach as they travelled there, landing safely after a few seconds. “Right, where do we go exactly?”
“That just seems so odd for your personality.”
“So does you supporting the fucking Death Eaters, but you don’t see me questioning that, do you?”
“Fuck me, this school has turned to shit, hasnt’ it-- wait... wha--what was that?”
“How did you even get into the boring subject, anyway?”
“It’s not boring. It’s my favourite -- was at school, and is now.”
“I’m a big fan of avoiding the problem until it goes away; but it’s got something to do with some mudblood.”
“Well that doesn’t sound too good.”
Calliste didn’t mind his faffing usually. However, she was very fond of keeping appointments that she made. Especially those that concerned the baby. She huffed at his shouted reply, but fought a grin all the same as she practically bounced over to him. “Yes, alright, not yet. But I want to be my version of on time, not yours.” Calliste actually did grin up at him after that. The morning sickness has faded a little recently. And the pregnancy wasn’t making her feel entirely miserable, even if she did worry about the fact that her stomach was becoming so obviously noticeable.
“Besides, surely you’re excited to get a look at our little one?” She said in a teasing sort of voice. Patting the bump with a smirk. Calliste was. She hasn’t thought she would be but now the day was here, she was excited about it. It made it seem more real. “So, if you’re finished messing?”
“Your version of on time is about an hour early, Callie.” Cas shot her a look that she had seen from him so many times before, and yet, it was instantly softened b the way that she was looking up at him, her face full of excitement.. Of course it was important to him as well that they checked everything was okay with the baby, but this was the first time in months that Cas had seen a smile on his love’s face regarding the small life growing inside of her stomach, and he wasn’t about ot ruin that.
Letting out a dramatic sigh that she would know was a play, Cas leaned in and pressed a kiss to her lips, his hand resting over hers that patted her small bump. “Of course I’m excited. Let’s go, before you end up dragging me by my ear or something.”
“Cas?” Calliste called, moving through their quarters with a harried expression on her face. She smoothed a hand over the skirt of her dress again, though of course it would not lay as flat as it used to now. It wouldn’t lay flat for some months yet. She had a baby bump now and it was soon going to be impossible to hide no matter how clever the dress sense. Besides, she was on the edge of starting the second trimester, and Cas was so excited to be a father… Soon enough he’d want to tell more people.
Letting out a sigh, she called out his name again. “Mon Dieu, Cas, will you please hurry up? I really would rather not be late for this check up!”

Cas was busy faffing around as usual. There was always something for him to be doing with one of his books, his glasses perched precariously on the edge of his nose as he flicked through the old, worn pages, trying to make heads or tails of the new theory that he was delving further into. It was coming together slowly, that was for sure, but it would take time to truly make sense,
and be able to be presented to a higher authority. Hearing his girlfriend’s frantic voice from the other end of their quarters once more, Cas pushed himself up from the desk and let out a sigh, tossing his glasses onto the wood. “All right, All right, I’m coning. Calm yourself, woman. We’re not going to be late.”
“Maybe I did something that could be considered wrong.”
“Oh? Wanna talk to me about it?”
“How terrible for you Uncle Cas. It must be hard to be a teacher.”
“Absolute nightmare. Why I came back to deal with this shit, I’ll never know. How are you doing, Star?”
“I’m sorry to bother you then, especially since my question also happens to be about runes.”
“As long as it isn’t a silly one that can be answered by looking in a book or reading back on your notes, I’m sure I can help. What did you want to ask?”
❝Uncle Cas❞ Regulus said in a too cheerful tone, he didn’t even know he was capable of sounding like that anymore, ❝It’s been a while since I’ve talked to you…❞ he said standing up. Regulus had not chosen Runes as an elective, and mostly only saw his uncle while passing through in a rush.
“Yes, well, we’ve all been very busy, times a-changing, blah blah blah.” Cas knew that his nephew was all for the events that were happening in the school, but his family were the only ones that he wouldn’t judge for believing in this supremacist crap. “How’ve you been anyway, kid?”
“I can honestly say I’ve never had any questions about Runes.”
“Well that’s good, because I wouldn’t have wanted to answer them anyway.”
“You know, I’m not a baby Uncle Cas. I don’t need reminding of my P’s and Q’s,” she shrugged, “Besides, you’re family.”
“Well, it’s no harm in reminding you every now and again, is it?” Cas grinned, having handed the plate over his his niece.
