god I'm so fucking furious at the removal of Te Reo Māori names from organisations around Aotearoa. it's a complete non-issue, every organisation has the English name directly underneath the Māori name. I have never once as an English speaker been unable to understand what an organisation is for. Winston Peters, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is literally Māori himself, said “Te Papa is a historic name but tell me this waka kotahi, how many boats have you seen going down the road?”. Waka does not just mean canoe. it means vessel, and waka kotahi (the transport agency of Aotearoa) explains this VERY SIMPLY on their official website. waka kotahi means to travel together as one. Can you see how fucking upsetting this is. A Māori person in power who is in agreement about banning his own language, being so cocky about something that he does not even understand due to the suppression of the language of his people. It makes me sick. I've seen reports from Māori people all over Aotearoa speaking out about how upset and furious they are, how decades of progress have been undone in the fight to restore the rights of their people who have for so long been oppressed and have suffered the effects of colonisation. Please share this if you can, I hate knowing how few people will hear about this, I know there is so much injustice in the world right now and it is so exhausting, I know. I love you all, keep it up.

OFMD is such a highly mobilized fandom that we managed to keep the show trending every single day for 2 months before they finally renewed it.

We have pooled money and sent food to WGA and SAG-AFTRA picket lines for every single day since May 2.

We are promoting all cast and crew projects like it's our 9 to 5 job, because they can't do it while on strikes.

Internet polls is a fun low-stakes activity for us, it keeps us on our toes. But most probably we'll forget about this poll in a few days even if we win, because it's one of so many others we already won.

the fact that the tonal shift in ofmd happens when Stede decides to walk away from the story is driving me insane. Like we see him have an insane amount of plot armor during the season and we are being told the story (until about episode 9 or 10) through his (and by extension Lucius' eyes) and then he walks away from it and loses control and the story grows darker and darker until it's almost unrecognizable

Stede is the fairy tale focal point. Without his perspective, we lose sight of the sillyness, the lightness and overall magic of the story. The Revenge was his magic castle, his tree house for the lost boys, his safe haven for the found family. And by walking away he gave it over to the harsh reality of high sea piracy. This reality will wrack his ship in more than one ways. And he needs to reastablish this feeling of safety and comfort for the people he grew to care about or they will be lost, sooner or later, bc they don't fit anywhere else.

Ed has to find his own stability first. He can't get swept up in Stede's magic tale again, it would destroy them both.

It's the story about maturing into someone you want to be. Ed has to get his shit together and stop playing everything off as unimportant {aka being cool}, embrace fragility, find out what he wants and grow stronger with it. Stede has to tap into resources he never needed before, leading people, learning real skills and finally fully being the f*cking lighthouse he only has been in the most disastrous way hence.

I wanna take a minute to talk about the Looks of the entire cast of OFMD S2.

I think we're all pretty familiar with the male gaze. Lots of skin, tits and ass, that sort of thing.

The female gaze has been debated, but it looks something like a sexy college professor or himbo househusband.

What OFMD S2 absolutely nails is the queer gaze.

Look at this man.

An absolutely beautiful man. Who wears crop tops and leather pants. Long hair up in a messy bun. He's wearing eyeliner. And pearls.

And here.

Drawn on facial hair. Spaulders. Bracers. Fishnet sleeves. A MOTHERFUCKING MULLET.

These badasses.

The teeth and chains. SO MUCH MAKEUP. Big fancy coat with nothing underneath. Glam met goth and fucked out these looks.

And THE SWEDE!

Cropped jacket. Ponytail. Asymmetrical button fly. Decorative chains (again).

All of this screams queer. If I saw any of these people in a bar I'd be like "Yep, one of us." The gender fuckery of it all. The feminine and the masculine all thrown in together in perfect combinations. Decoration for its own sake. Jewelry and flashy adornment and gorgeous peacockery.

And we love it. The fandom is going absolutely feral over these looks, these actors, as we very well should. There is not a single member of this cast who has not had beautiful art lovingly made depicting them.

Fuck the male gaze, fuck the female gaze. Give me the queer gaze. Give me queer creators making queer media for queer audiences and absolutely nailing it. These people are not at all what Hollywood usually thinks sexy looks like, yet we want to devour every one of them. This is what queer beauty looks like. What queer sex appeal looks like. What queer desire looks like.

Fuck yes. It's about time.
