Hello and welcome!

Taking inspiration from the tide of other gimmick blogs on here (particularly @identifying-cars-in-posts) and my love of all things feline, I am here to identify cats I see in posts!

I will be replying to posts including cats with my best guess of color + pattern, breed (if applicable), and a little commentary :3

I am not an expert. I am just someone with a special interest in cats. Please do not take my educated guesses as absolute fact. I have been wrong before and it will happen again. Furthermore, I am not in any way qualified to give vet advice, sorry!

This blog is active on a very sporadic basis, as I am a college student who simply does this whenever I happen to have the energy for it. Please understand that it may take me a very, very long time to get to whatever you've sent me.

Ask box is for Questions and Commentary. Requests to ID that go in there will be deleted. You CAN show me your cat without asking for an ID and I will simply appreciate its glory and/or silliness.

Feel free to tag me in memes, etc if you would like to see the cat in it identified.

Submissions will be opened on occasion when I run out of preexisting tumblr posts. You can send in your own cats through the submissions box. I will try to announce submissions openings a day in advance as they will get closed whenever I feel like I have enough. Please only submit one cat per submission or I will have to delete it.

so me and my family have always wandered what type of cat ours is. We kinda settled into calling her a calico since she is around three colors. But I was wondering if you could maybe identify her.

can you help with identifying my cat? we got her from a shelter and someone said “shes a black siamese” and im not quite sure. never heard of one before so im a bit skeptical.

"Siamese" is a name for a breed that normally has the colorpoint pattern. You wouldn't find a purebred Siamese in any other color, or at the shelter, most likely.

She's just a regular black cat! And a wonderful one at that.

She is indeed a black solid! Black cats can often look brownish in warm sunlight and indeed if they spend a lot of time in the sun may even get a little "rusty" looking. Isn't that as wonderful as she is?

My sister's cat confuses me very much. She has tabby stripes, but some of the stripes almost look as if they are "calico" but only within the stripe?? And then her paws look like a calico's paws. Also, the between stripes turns almost white futher down her back. I hope these photos will help. Can you provide any insights?

I'm thinking that she's most likely a black and red tortoiseshell mackerel tabby. Sometimes tortoiseshells can be sneaky and only have small snippets of one color or the other. The "background" color is so light for her that the difference between the red and black may not be easily visible outside of the stripes.
