comet is going to go to a field of dreamer's flower to try and get rid of the effects of apparitia (or with the context of gemini, nightcrawler is going to give her dreamer's flower to try and help her) and that's how she's going to die. i'll eat my own foot if this doesn't happen

my evidence: apparitia causes fatal insomnia. dreamer's flower (that cause people to fall asleep and then die) are, very prominently stated, the only thing in outskirts (this is seen in artwork as well. outskirts is always nothing but grass). in merch comet keeps being depicted with flowers. they aren't dreamer's flower, but having them be that would be too obvious. considering minty's scarf was foreshadowing for him, i don't think different types of flowers is too much of a stretch.

funny how much emphasis tmnt 2003, and especially leonardo, puts on honor and bushido. despite being a ninja. who are. famous for not doing that. he's a ninja the same way monkey d luffy is a pirate.

okay no i thought this too and it turns out we all owe leo an apology

i recently read the bansenshukai, an actual real-world ninja manual that was written during the edo period to preserve knowledge of ninja skills during peacetime, and the first two chapters are completely devoted to teaching "the right mind"

the very first chapter of this 22-scroll-long manual emphasizes that a ninja is a samurai, just one with a very particular skillset, and, outside of missions, should conduct himself as a model samurai. specifically, he should be honest, straight-dealing, respectful, benevolent, not even cracking jokes, completely loyal to his lord (but only to an intelligent and honorable lord who will use him properly!), all sorts of things like that, because otherwise his allies will not be able to trust him.

the author explains that this chapter is the very first one in the manual because, without "the right mind", someone using a ninja's skills is no ninja at all, but a mere burglar. it was extremely obvious, even being translated essentially twice (archaic japanese is difficult for modern japanese speakers to read!), that the author had a huge amount of disdain for burglars and anyone else who would selfishly misuse ninja teachings.

so like. i'm willing to accept that leo applies it too broadly. but he is actually not as absurdly off-base as i've always assumed.

I kinda wanted to approach Eden and the COI not as Evil Cult Society and Evil Industrial Society (since personally i just find that less interesting) but more as two diverging human cultures that adapted to intense circumstances in different ways. that isn't to say that there aren't harmful aspects to them, much in the way that there are harmful aspects to real human societies.
