Non-verbal communication in the work place happens everyday. Someone may rub you the wrong way, or say something you don’t like. Non-verbal reactions to those situations can say more than words. Recognizing that not only is your verbal communication a key thing to watch while at work, but non-verbal communication as well.
Not only was I embarrassed for the interviewer, I got a really got sense of John Cusack’s non-verbals!!
This is the perfect example of the skills needed to be a great leader
I really like this diagram. You see the key characteristics to successful leadership, including “personal brand”. Personal branding is making it’s way into your future jobs and job searches.
Figuring out different ways to handle stress is important because stress can be really bad for you if you do not do something about it. It can make you sick and make you unhealthy. This is a picture I found on the internet, and it shows you different ways you can cope with stress. I feel like all these techniques are really good because you can always do different things to help you deal with stress. You just have to figure out what works best for you and apply it. Discovering new relaxation techniques is good because you always need some time to relax and just have time for yourself. I feel like this always helps me when I’m feeling stressed.
Excellent reminders about stress. It can be the source of lack of productivity (less critical) and disease (very critical).
Judgments are made about people based on the Professional image they display as a result of appearance and behaviors. This occurs before the Individual’s level of competence is determined. Therefore, dress to impress!
I know the feeling on not knowing what to where at a function. My husband would get invited to a business awards ceremony or event and there are times I feel like I don’t know what to wear.
No one said it was easy to be professional. But, it can be taught and produced in everyday life. Your reward it knowing you are professional. Show and treat others how you would like to be shown and treated - Professional.
“Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.”
I believe this is a very true and important statement. I've had to experience this first-hand. I would like to make this more clear for everyone since it wasn’t as black and white for me personally. So, for those who don’t know, don’t dress for the position that you already had on your resume or your previous title if your hopes are to get something better.

In order to succeed in a business environment you have to be in control of your emotions . When you get angry you lose control of your self-awareness and it will only escalate the problem. Knowing how to calmly disarm a conflict takes emotional intelligence. Without this problems with disgruntled customers can cause havoc in the work place as well as possibly lead to losing your job. Staying calm and focus on defusing the situation is the one of the hardest parts of customer service.

Okay, so my post this week isn’t about leadership. It’s more in line with CONFIDENCE. I work with many students who are talented and capable. The only ingredient lacking is confidence. Yes, be yourself. But if your confidence is low watch the TED talk and let me know what you think. Can you fake it until you become it as Amy Cuddy suggests?

Sending an email message is like sending a postcard, says scientist Andy Yen in this thought-provoking talk: Anyone can read it. Yet encryption, the technology that protects the privacy of email communication, does exist. It's just that until now it has been difficult to install and a hassle to use. Showing a demo of an email program he designed with colleagues at CERN, Yen argues that encryption can be made simple to the point of becoming the default option, providing true email privacy to all.
