The year 2016 as you are fully aware has been a majestic shitshow in terms of geopolitics. It's been depressing in many ways but personally it has been very good in some. As with many life altering decisions, the one that hit me came from a room full of business executive types, who decided to close two sites in Essex and Glasgow and move the work to my, up to that point, quiet and underused site here in Coventry. Dozens of agency workers arrived, many were fucking useless, to cope with the huge increase in work which we weren't even sure how to do ourselves let alone train others to do. I did many hours of overtime, during dark, stressed weeks to try and keep up with the mess that work became. The plus side of this was a nice amount of money coming through, including a tax refund. This money then influenced probably one of the most reckless and yet eventually brilliant decisions of my life. It all started one evening when I was depressed about not having a fullsuit of my own and began browsing Furbuy. To cut a long story short, 3 weeks later I got a cat in a big box arrive from Florida... you've probably seen him by now. He's what steered my year away from being mundane, and i am excited about wearing him for years to come. I went to 3 cons this year, all 3 of the UK cons. 2016 has been the year I offically became crew for two of the cons and fulfilled a longstanding desire to do con work and put something back into the fandom that has given me so much. Art wise, I have drawn almost nothing this year which is a disappointment. I've lost the will to even try as it ends up frustrating and never how I'd like it. I did however comission some great stuff, and also recieved some wonderful gift art... now of course including Tealby who feels like a great second charcter and not just a fursuit. Of course one of the huge fandom moments of this year has been the release of Zootropoloplipiapis, the film about anthrompopmorphic animuls. The fandom was very excited. I was excited. I went to the cinema and as the film played out I sat at the edge of my seat and felt levels of excitement I'd not felt since I was a kid. The film lived up to expectations. Try Everything has become a minor Furry anthem, and that childlike feeling pretty much sums up how the fandom makes me feel. A liberation from the dark world out there. As 2017 begins and we head into an extremely uncertain future, it is reassuring to know that we can spend some time liberated from the shitey mess and escape with each other. Thankyou.
It's difficult to explain all of this but I'll try to keep it brief. After a boring childhood I'd settled into a life which, while agreeable, lacked something. My social circles were older and staid in their outlook. I really desired some fun, some adventure, a more colourful existence. I'm not sure how I found fursuiters on YouTube, but I watched them a fair bit. I watched suiters like Volf; Marko T Rat and Ristin Raccoon doing some weird Disney song spoof... also there was an Australian furry dance video that captivated me the most which unfortunately has gone from the net. I was peering through a window into this amazing world and yet never had the courage to do something about becoming one myself. Never. I didn't know where to start, what to do, it was beyond me. I wouldn't fit in. For years I was like this, until the evening of 18th of February 2012. I was sat on a bench in Victoria Square in Birmingham City Centre, waiting in the freezing cold for a meeting. I was tired as fuck, so the nonsensical sight of animal people across the other side of the square was confusing. Then I realised, they were furries. They'd gone by the time I decided to go across and see them but I spent the rest of the night totally distracted. I had a real opportunity, was I able to make it? From their appearance in Birmingham I assumed there were local fursuiters. I forget what I googled but it led me to the ukfur.org forums. I joined. I read so much on that site, to gain a deeper understanding of the fandom. I was like Johnny Five in the bookstore (MAJOR INPUT!). Six weeks after that evening on the bench, I met local furs and began going to meets, making friends I know and love to this day. Ten weeks after that evening on the bench I put in a commission for a fursuit with Mercury, which then got accepted and made, a suit I've spent countless hours in having amazing fun, he's a treasured possession. And now we are four years on. I sometimes consider that if it wasn't for that chance sighting, that brief encounter with a passing subculture I wouldn't be here: having fell down this rabbit hole, I'm in the best phase of my life. The world is a weird place and even though at times it's not been plain sailing I feel blessed to have become part of you, the furry fandom. This is a photo of the actual bench I was sat on on that night. Taylor ( http://corgi-kid.tumblr.com/ ) did the rest, I knew he'd do a smashing job.
This homophobic post from the UK Fur forum falls way below what should be expected from a forum moderator and long established member.
This is hilarious.

Zest the husky fullsuit is done! Fullsuit photos, with the model not the same size as the customer. He should look less stumpy in the legs ;)
Made with white, orange and navy blue DF shag fur, with white floki fur for accents (chest, neck and tail). He has a silicone tongue and resin teeth inside of his mouth, with resin claws and silicone toony pawpads. He features follow me eyes, digitigrade padding, toony stuffed handpaws and a tufty hairstyle! Nose is by DVC, everything else was made by me.
