Heroine with a burning heart
I'm continuing to make purposeful art wanting to paint images of powerful girls who light their own trajectory in space. In this piece, a girl picks up her pencil aimed create her next idea. Her heart is passionate and filled with potential, and her mind is the infinite universe.

It hasnât been easy this week, and have been feeling distracted. Iâm thankful that I can channel my artistic abilities and my energy for good things, like designing the Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Geosciences logo and being a part of the steering committee.
In the logo, I represent as many different fields of earth & planetary sciences as I could. The four sections of the logo spell out AAPI.
If you are in the Earth and Planetary sciences field and want an invite, DM me on my instagram @/catblip or my Twitter @/caro_in_space.
Our Pale Blue Dot (2020) Iâm thinking about accessibility to space, and envisioning a future where civilian astronauts can come together on the moonânot for a military space race, but for international collaboration in STEM and to connect on a personal level what seeing the âEarthriseâ means to them. I chose to portray the experience through the reflection of a helmet to bring the viewer into the illustration, as if you are the one beneath the visor witnessing our tiny home in the universe. What would you be feeling?

Wanderer Above a Sea of Vapor. Â
You have finally reached Enceladus, a small moon on the outskirts of Saturnâs rings. Stare across at the plumes of water vapor erupting from a deep ocean beneath the surface.

My last illustration for 2020. One of the positive things about this year is that all the time I spent not traveling to my lab was instead spent on art and giving back to the community. Happy new year everyone, and may you all stay safe and healthy.
Merry Christmas present to my dad and Fluffy âš

Laika, born in Moscow, became the first animal to orbit the Earth. This is my tribute to her and the many dogs who were sacrificed for space travel.

Itâs Not October but I wanted to finish this piece of a little space witch with her robot cat familiar. Spot the objects orbiting in the back!

On this day 18 October, FĂ©licette was launched into space for 15 minutes by the French space program, becoming the first cat in space and the only cat to survive a launch. Hereâs my tribute to her.
Bonus: she got honored with a bronze statue at the International Space University in Dec 2019!Â
Fluff!
Challenging myself to redraw a scene from My Neighbor Totoro in the style of Princess Kaguya, both #StudioGhibli movies. This was kinda hard though...

âCommitting to Anti-Racism and Inclusion in the Brooke Owens Fellowshipâ
My fellow @brookeowensfellowship Brookies and I made an alumnae statement on anti-racism (before my Executive Team role). As alumnae volunteers we help shape the program, and so itâs up to us to open the door in the industry and then help the Brookies who step through feel like they belong. Read the blog post at https://brookeowensfellowship.org/blog
I made this image for the post. Three people stand in protest in front of the smoke trails of a rocket launch. The color palette is taken from colors at dawn, signifying the dawn of a new normal.

A drawing collaboration of Marie Tharp, an iconic geologist and woman in STEM, whose 100th birthday was this past week! Check out Columbia Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory for some more info on her accomplishments.
âWorking at a time when female scientists set off reflex skepticism, Tharp drafted the first comprehensive map of the ocean floor, which led to the acceptance of the once-mocked, now fundamental theory of continental drift. Not bad for someone whose discoveries were initially dismissed as âgirl talk.ââ -Michael Washburn for the NY Times(x)
Original drawing by Aaron Dana (2nd pic), based off of a Library of Congress photograph of Marie (3rd pic). Done for a competition supporting a good cause run by Phoebe Cohen on twitter. https://www.instagram.com/p/CDXIPs8Hoxb/?igshid=6b8f4qx2xrts

Just a cute jumping spider with a water droplet I did as a gift back in 2016. Have a good week and stay hydrated đ§
Something fun, I discovered artist trading cards and made these with space tourism in mind. If I could go anywhere in our solar system, what absolutely touristy things would I do?*
1. Take a pic with Neil Armstrongâs footprint on the moon đ©âđ
2. Save Opportunity rover by cleaning the dust off the solar panels (RIP)
3. Take a selfie with Curiosity rover
4. See Saturnâs rings in the sky from Titan
*while trying not to get in the way of science
I wanted to #redrawsailormoon but also #redrawreigen so hereâs the combined abomination.
