“If I won the lottery, I would move to Cabo San Lucas,” said my mother, as she and I were binge eating fresh guacamole and downing margaritas. Did I mention this was at 10 a.m.? I love Mexico.
If Cabo does not intrigue you yet, keep reading. If you aren’t buying lottery tickets in hopes of moving to Cabo like my mother by the end of this post, then you should probably refrain from clicking the “I am not a robot” button on websites.
I am not a robot, so here is how I bite into a day in Cabo:
I honestly think that deciding what to eat for breakfast is the hardest part of the day when on vacation in Mexico. There are so many options. On my past trip to Cabo I managed to try something new every morning and I found a winner!
Drum roll please…
The winner is: chilaquiles verdes con pollo at the Hacienda Beach Club and Residences Cocina y Cantina. I love this dish because it has a little bit of everything, literally. No matter what you wake up craving, chilaquiles verdes con pollo hits the spot.
CHILAQUILES VERDES CON POLLO - crispy tortillas, eggs, chicken, panela cheese, sour cream, avocado, green chile sauce. Like I said, this plate has it all. What came first, the chicken or the egg? It doesn’t matter because they are reunited in this dish! Ok, lame joke, but damn it’s good. (photo: Cate Creed).
Hacienda’s outdoor seating is also gorgeous if you want to wake up, grab coffee and watch the sunrise, or even better drink a tequila sunrise. The tequila sunrise and the Cabo mango are my two favorite drinks at Hacienda.
“I feel like I’m being healthy because this is like a green smoothie, just with rum,” my friend Meredith referring to her third Cabo mango of the morning.
After soaking up the sun, I usually work up an appetite. Well, after doing nothing for any period of time I tend to work up an appetite.
For a late lunch I highly suggest Flora Farms. Flora Farms is a pretty exclusive place about thirty minutes from the heart of Cabo. It is truly an oasis in the middle of a desert. I am obsessed with this place.

“This place is great,” said John Mayer. “I came here last night, too.”
YES, John Mayer was at Flora Farms at the same time as me and we had a conversation. I am still recovering from the experience.
But I promise running into famous people isn’t the only reason you must make time to eat here. The food is spectacular. Everything on the menu is grown on the property and made from scratch.
When you think of Mexican food you don’t necessarily think of pizza, but the pizza at Flora Farms is to die for. No matter how many slices you eat, you still feel light.

Either before or after your meal at Flora Farms, I highly suggest grabbing a cocktail and touring the property, because it is beautiful. Did I mention Adam Levine got married here? Yea, that happened too.
You will probably descend from your Flora Farms high just in time for dinner. Which is a great thing because you will not want to miss out on Edith’s.
Edith’s is probably the most festive restaurant in Cabo. It has everything from Mexican blankets to a mariachi band.
You must start your meal with the Caesar salad. They make the salad tableside and it is “probably the best known dish originating in Baja,” according to Edith’s menu.
The menu at Edith’s is massive, so the server will usually recommend what you need to order for your entree. Trust them, they tend to always be right.
LOBSTER & SHRIMP SCAMPI - my entree of choice at Edith’s every time, without fail. The lobster melts in your mouth like butter and the shrimp have enough flavor for the whole dish. Wow, I'm hungry. (photo: Cate Creed).
For dessert, the bananas foster is hands down the only way to go. It is also made table side and it is delicioso!

As a former Louisianan, I assumed I would go to Louisiana State University like the rest of my friends and family before me. That was before I visited and ate my way through Austin, Texas.
Sure, Louisiana has great food, especially New Orleans, but I would always have home. So, I decided to attend The University of Texas at Austin.
Of course, my parents wanted me to attend UT because of academics, but not so secretly wanted me to move to Austin so they would have an excuse to come visit the city and try every restaurant possible. I must say they are well on their way to achieving that goal.
So here is how I would do a day in Austin, Texas, determined to get the best food experience:
First stop, breakfast!
Whether or not you are trying to cure a hangover or just want to get your day started the right way, I would hit up 24 Diner. Here you can get anything from eggs to burgers, although I highly suggest the fried chicken biscuit. The atmosphere is lively and the service is great, but do arrive early because the line can be long.
But, hey! A long line is a good sign.
FRIED CHICKEN BISCUIT- Buttermilk biscuit, choice of white or dark meat, red chili flakes, honey, brown sugar butter, side of fruit, accompanied by a mimosa. Who wouldn’t wait in line for this?! (photo: Cate Creed).
Next stop, lunch!
I have recently become addicted to Liberty Kitchen ATX. The atmosphere is refreshing and the food is always on point. It has an awesome raw bar, but if you aren’t into seafood you have plenty of other options. For example, Liberty Kitchen has the best lobster mac n’ cheese that I have ever had. And I’ve had a lot of lobster mac.
Here is it is, the best lobster mac n’ cheese in the world. Please, for me, at least get a side of this baby, you will have no regrets. Lobster is healthy, therefore this mac is healthy too, right? Right! (photo: Cate Creed).
Dinner!!!
For the last meal of the day, there are so many options in Austin. It kind of depends on what you’re in the mood for because this city has it all. Seriously it does. I can only hope to try as many restaurants as possible before I graduate, but honestly it’s stressful to think about.
If I had to choose one restaurant to satisfy any craving, it would be Second Bar + Kitchen. Second is my favorite spot in Austin for any mealtime. During the day, it is a bright spot right on Congress Avenue, and by night it is a hip spot walking distance from Sixth Street. I think I have tried every item on the menu at Second, but my go-to is always the pizza bianco.
PIZZA BIANCO- ricotta, goat cheese, wild arugula, grans padano, and I always add hot Italian sausage. The sausage definitely adds to the flavor of this pizza, and it’s also a good pizza for order as an appetizer for the whole table. (photo: Cate Creed).

After three huge meals, if you did your day correctly that is, you will probably be too worn out to do much walking right after dinner. Lucky for you, Corner Bar at the JW Marriott hotel is right across the street. It has a great patio area, atmosphere and the cocktail list is one of the best. Now you can decompress until you hit up Austin’s nightlife or head home to hit your pillow. It’s up to you!
If you do happen to take the nightlife route, Garage Bar is a very cool low-key bar for an older crowd, Sixth Street is fun for all ages, and no matter what, you must end your night with Ropploo’s Pizza. That is an order. It is not up to you this time.
