Joining rounds method
Some of my crochet journey below. You can skip to the end for links of some cool videos instead!
Back when I started, I remember seeing about spiral x joining rounds. Because most patterns I picked up were in spiral, and often seeing the seam mark on joining round works, I thought to myself "Well, I have no reason to learn something I won't use :^)". I would even ignore the patterns that asked to join rounds in certain parts and just make them in spiral, because it's prettier!1! (that's why the Scorbunny I shared in an old post has crooked legs). Well, eventually I learned the joining rounds usefulness. Of course there's lots of work arounds in spiral method. But joining rounds felt more convenient for color change and sewing work. Then I started my search for the best methods. I made many samples! Lots and lots of discs in various colors...! With no tags so I'm not sure what is what anymore (*facepalms*). My objective was to find a method that it wouldn't require cutting the yarn, looked seamless (or at least very hard to notice) and by preference, with no drift. Basically I wanted the classic joining round, but without the *look* of the classic joining round.
I remember searching specifically how to handle the tension/yarn pull to make the best looking joining round, only to find answers like "just do spiral instead" or "here's the inverted slip stich method" (which drifts the start of the round).
After some youtube recommendations and a better wording for searching, I finally got these:

I admit I have yet to try them on an actual project, but the results so far were good. I'll report the results when I get the chance to use them!
Freehanded a Pikachu! Inspired on an old Pikachu plushie + the Pikachu from Pokemon Special. After finishing all the pieces, I had no idea if they would work together. Good enough, I guess!
Made a Spongebob! (10 cm/ 4 inches tall)
Making the wavy sides was trickier then I expected; after sewing the pieces together (front, back and one long retangle that connects them), the edges ended up thick and not very defined. So I shaped them by sculpting the sides with yarn thread! I also tried some embroidery for the eyes, and attached the shoes with some fancy sewing (I had no idea what I was really doing, but it worked lol)
I usually try to, with each amigurumi project, learn something new. B)
And yes, I left out his sponge holes. Maybe I'll embroider them or needle felt another time...
Freehanded a Pingu recently. Used up all the black plush yarn leftover. (and had to salvage two small scraps of it to finish the very end of one of the wings xD) Crocheting him was on my to-do list, but I was planning doing it like I'm used to with amigurumi from scratch: writing down and trying to make it as in-model as possible. But I already got a little burn-out of doing it with another project; so I took a break from that one project and did this in two days!

Color change shenanigans
This crochet thought has been on my mind for some time and I have to share it somewhere!!
Anyone remember about that one color change that was trending recently, where you start the stitch with color A, use color B in the second pull and finish it with A again? Well, I also found a video of someone complaining that the method wasn't so good because it gave the piece a dent in said color change round. Which searching other tutorials and trying it myself, yes, it was there! Depending of the yarn it didn't stand out that much, but anyway-
I found that the dent was due to the yarn losing its usual tension the way the stitch was done, and to solve it I just had to move the color A over color B before pulling it, so the both yarn would hold each other instead of being apart. Though that method gave a slight annoyance of having to unroll the spiralling yarns that result from it as you go. lol
But it worked! Ok, thanks for reading xD (I probably should add some photos for reference sake...)
Oh, turns out the technique is called "half color change"! And I even found someone teaching the yarn-twisting idea I mentioned! Another gift for another friend! Also my first amigurumi from scratch. The arms and legs are somehow posable. (I sewed each pair together passing straight through the body two times).
Back then I used to take pics of before and after, it's nice to see the transformation lol

I saw the biscuit pattern on my recomended videos and saved for later. Turns out mini-food is pretty addictive to crochet!!

Blue Bat
I wanted to have a fancy blog, with nicely taken pics and consistent formating. But that just made me postpone actual posting! lol So I’ll just try to start already and get better as I go. Just like with crochet! I’ll start with this blue bat I made to gift a friend!
This bat pattern is one of the 20 charming creatures from the Animal Friends of PicaPau book series. I bought kinda by impulse, as amigurumi books are kinda rare to find in physical stores, and while I studied it, I never got to crochet anything from it. Boo! So I showed my friend the pattern list and asked her to choose one so I could make for her. She chose this one!
I’m used to making smaller pieces, so it was a nice experience to try my hand on a bigger pattern again. I couldn’t help but notice that most of time - due to the yarn weight, probably - pieces come out thinner and longer than they were supposed to. (compare the wing sticks to see what I mean!) I also changed the inner ears more to my liking (the book author do incentive giving your own spin to the patterns and experiment as much as we want~) Still, I was happy with the outcome!! I want to try other patterns from the book eventually.
