I want you to know that this is not a scam and real genuine people who need help to survive. I went to high school with Mariyam and she’s an amazing person who does not deserve to have to fear for the safety of her family every day. Neither should they or anyone else fear for their own lives.

The scene that always gets me in Goncharov, when after Ice Pick Joe dies, they all go to his apartment to collect and care for his cat.

("we have to. Joe loved that cat. It's the only way to do right by him. We owe him that much")

But as soon as they open the door and the kitty doesn't see Joe it runs off past them all into the night.

And like. Maybe it's just because I'm a cat owner and I hate the idea of not coming home to my cat and him not understanding but like.

The symbolism too though. They can't do right by Ice Pick Joe. It's too late. If they had let him stay retired. If they hadn't asked him back for one more job. That would've been right. He would've lived.

And that one little scene just drives home the motif of failing to do right and take care of the relationships you have until it's to late and you're left alone.

That kitty knew what was up I hope she's ok.

one interesting fact about goncharov i haven’t seen anyone mention yet is that all the clocks in the film run slightly faster than actual clocks (something something running out of time, etc etc). it’s something like 1.3 times faster. it’s subtle but really impressive
