This Cathedral Wide Plank Oak Floor was installed in a 17th Century farm house in Hampshire. Our specification was to produce a floor that would be true the original building and all of its historic charms, yet compliment this new stylistic kitchen. The Myers Touch of Winchester, Hampshire designed and installed this kitchen. The result displayed “Historic Fusion” at its very best. This wide plank oak floor had been distressed, fumed and white oiled blended effortlessly into it new surroundings.

Painted white floors give a very clean cut Scandinavian look which is proving ever more popular in the UK flooring market. One of my favourite looking floors at the moment and one that will prove a good seller this year.

Fuming is a process that produces a very unique floor. It is very difficult to achieve a similar finish with a stain or color oil for example. Cathedral Floors can be fumed in a wide range of widths and grades giving the customer a huge choice when it comes to making that all important decision.

At Cathedral Flooring we can use ammonia fuming to change the color of our floors. Many species of wood contain a substance called tannin and the ammonia fumes react with this. The fumes penetrate into the wood and bring out different shades of color. The more tannin, the better the wood will fume. The length of time that the wood is fumed, the temperature inside the room and the percentage of ammonia used can all change the final finished colour.
