The Me Bird
I made this extended scene for a VICE segment that explores the moral, political and personal questions raised by how and when we end our lives. If you have access to HBO I recommend checking out the entire episode. It's one of the most beautiful and touching pieces that has come out of this series. Season 4 Episode 3 Right to Die.

Mark Rothko, No. 16, 1961
This is such an odd one for Rothko, I’ve always been suspicious of it. It looks to me like those copies people do. I can’t find a museum reference for it , either.
However, it appears that it has a number and date and some kind of reputable places seem to think it’s legit. It’s kind of pop-art and plastic for him with less translucency. I would guess it’s acrylic but I’ve been wrong before. Interesting.
I’ve become suspicious due to seeing so many fakes but I’m going to say the scan is part of the issue that makes it feel artificially bright and bow to the other people on the web who think it’s the real thing. It’s certainly a popular one.
