it's so funny that in the process of applying for disability aid, i either get government workers who are like "wow what the fuck, that's ridiculous youve been waiting this long, im so sorry" or "ugh you want to know what's going on with your application 🙄 i dont know. and no, i cant refer you to someone who knows"

so one of the reasons im anti psych is because i actually really admire humans as an animal, the way we as creatures survive and adapt is fucking incredible and we have the opportunity to just ask each other what our wellbeing needs are in such specific detail, we can create the language necessary to consider and communicate feelings and needs and come up with solutions/ accomodations together

but we have this whole group of people with power who don't see us with so much fascination or compassion.

#i did the same! adopted a deeply neglected and traumatized cat #he first came to me and my ex bc he was hiding from a big dog and kinda just... kept coming back to our place bc he felt it was a safe space #but never interacted with us. hissed at us the one time we tried to pet him so we just let him be #slowly over time. being fed and given occasional treats and given toys to play and an 'alone zone' that we never entered #he slowly spent less and less time in his alone zone #started showing us his belly before he's let us pet him at all #we'd put our hand out and talk to him softly and lethim come to us for pets if he anted #after about a year he did!!#and then he started cuddling with us #(we also gave him a way to communicate with us that he wanted treats which was Not the right idea lmao. he'd ask for then all night long)

I don't know how to make this not sound mean but I'm not trying to be mean, so please know that going in.

Listening to a podcast about bodies and eating disorders and the body positivity movement of the last decade ish and hearing someone say (paraphrasing from memory here) "body positivity was all capitalism, there were no legislative changes, just new brands of jeans"

Legislative changes are super important but I cannot emphasize enough that jeans coming in bigger sizes and fat-friendly cuts is actually a really big deal! With meaningful impacts on people's lives (including mine)! Fat people do need clothes! And you may not realize this, but if you're over a certain size (that's not even that big a size) there's a very good chance you can go to a big box store and *not find anything that fits you*. There are towns in the US where if you're over a size 18 you need to drive an hour away or shop online to get things in your size. And they're expensive! "Just buy used" if they even have your size! Fat people want to look nice too. And we face enough judgement during job interviews (to give one example) without trying to do it in clothes that don't fit or are super uncomfortable.

Actually: If you're fat and you want to look cute/hot/masc/femme/etc I cannot recommend this website enough, you put in your measurements and it lists what brands have your size. You can filter for stuff like sensory friendly, nonbinary, masc, organic, etc. It's not AI just a database.
