Lux couldn’t help but smile slightly at her question - if she only knew what he’d been through. Where would he begin? “It’s kind of a long story, believe it or not,” he answered, a soft chuckle escaping his lips. “But given everything I figure we both have enough time to do a little catching up.” Unable to help himself, he gently reached for Cats hand and motioned for her to follow him. He held back as smile when she willingly followed.
He never hesitated or even looked around as he lead the way up to the fourth floor where he lived. One of the many pros of living among senior citizens was the amount of privacy that came with it - other than the fact that Lux honestly enjoyed their company, of course. His apartment was small and simple, not overly decorated but not empty enough for it to seem like he never spent any time there. “It’s not much but it’s home,” he explained, opening his door and allowing Cat to walk in before following suit, closing the door behind him, “the balcony has a pretty nice view. You can see the park from here.” Lux walked over across the living room and turned on a lamp, unsure why he was suddenly so nervous.
“TruBlood?” he offered, not waiting for Cat to reply before he was walking towards his kitchen. He returned seconds later with two bottles, silently handing one to the blonde. Shit, this had seemed a lot easier 30 seconds ago. “I can’t believe you’re actually here,” he finally spoke, a slightly amused smile on his face as he looked at her. It had been centuries - Lux had honestly believed he would never see Catherine Orsini again. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been this happy being wrong.
Finally, he took a seat on one of the couches and began speaking. “I left home a while after you did. I don’t really remember how I ended up in Ireland but that’s where I sort of…started over,” he paused, opening his TruBlood and taking a drink before continuing, his blue eyes never once looking up at Cat. He wasn’t used to talking about this particular part of his life - the years right before he was turned. Despite the fact that he thought about his family every single day, talking about it, especially with someone from his past, was different…especially when he used to be in love with that specific someone. “I settled down for a few years and then one night…,” he trailed off, shrugging his shoulders lightly.
The rest of kind of history.
“I never knew my maker. I came too and had to figure out the ropes of this as I went. Needless to say, it was a disaster,” he admitted, forcing a smile on his lips. Lux finally lifted his gaze and looked at Catherine, unable to read her expression. Shit. “But I think I turned out alright,” he added, attempting to lighten the mood. The last thing Lux wanted was to put a damper on their reunion but he had this strange feeling that that ship had sailed the moment he started talking about his past.
The warmth that filled her - well, emotionally, that is, when he extended his hand towards her for her to take was incomparable. As her gaze moved up from his outstretched hand to meet his eyes, a bright smile was on her lips. She had never even begun to dream of being reunited with Lux again. He had died long ago, and there would never be another chance for Catherine Orsini to feel the love coursing through her that Greyson Luxford drew from her.
But as she placed her small hand in his and his fingers wrapped around her own, Cat couldn’t help but begin to hope that maybe, just maybe, she was getting a second chance at love. Real love.
Without hesitation or trepidation, the blonde followed the man in front of her to his apartment, realizing as they made their way silently through the night, that she would probably follow Lux wherever he might go.
As she entered the quaint apartment, a small chuckle escaped her lips. When they had last been together, the world had been filled with huge castles with banners and family crests. Now, they were being reunited in a much different setting.
She shifted slightly when he offered her the bottle of TruBlood, taking it slowly, almost hesitatingly as she was reminded of who she had become over the years since she had lost Lux. She was going to have to tell him, show him really what she was now and no doubt, if anyone could uphold a moral compass through the transition into vampirism, it would be Lux. What would he think of her?
She was snapped out of her thoughts when he spoke again. Cat nodded distractedly as she sat down on the couch, pushing her hair behind her ear as she pulled her left leg up on the couch, her knee just barely touching her leg as she listened to him.
Her brows came together as he told his story and suddenly Cat was furious. How could anyone take someone as good and wonderful and pure as Lux, turn him into a vampire, and then abandon him to go through the transition alone?! “I’m so sorry, Lux.” she breathed, reaching forward and giving his hand what she hoped would be a reassuring or even sympathetic squeeze. “No one should have to go through that alone.” she added, her eyes glued on his.
But then, a pestering thought hit her and she was struck with how familiar his story was, and how much it reminded her of her own. Except for she had somehow thought she was in love with her maker and he hadn’t even known his. “So you never saw your maker? Never knew who he was or anything?” she asked after a moment, biting her lip almost nervously as the thoughts that they could possibly share the same maker swirled in her head.
