♕ ━━━ juno doesn’t flinch at the pages slamming and fanning out against the wall, then sliding down onto the tile. she tilts her head as if she’s really keen on what this brat is spewing from her mouth. the gesture is mostly out of pity, although she feels that for most of the people here, since they are no match for her disposition. those questions did not tear her lips apart for a giveaway for her demise. instead juno keeps calm. “there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. you seem treading on it.”

sometimes catriona is curious if the others she challenge realize she’s not actually serious about this entire thing. that the INFLATED sense of ego she presents is nothing more than an act to see how they react to her. she’s mulling over the humorous thought only for a moment before simply shrugging. “ arrogance ? simply because i think i’ll win the crown ? ” a huff of laughter escapes past her lips, arms crossing over the other. “ if that was true, then over half of the participants in this LOVELY competition are arrogant. ”

had it been anyone else who had spoken those words, alessandro surely would have been compelled to retaliate with a scoff or roll of his eyes. however; considering the messanger ( and the seemingly harmless setting of the exchange ), he would have had to be a shockingly stupid man to react in any other way than to simply grace the back of cat’s head in endearment. “you’re gonna owe me an entire year.” slipping down to place himself securely by her side, alec almost felt embarrassed by how quickly defaulting walls. around the petite girl, the commander rarely found himself being anything besides – well, pleasant. apparently. these brief moments with catriona were the fleeting proof that nothing was impossible.  “don’t fret though.. i’ll put it on your tab, my angelo.”

the hand on the back of her head startles her for a moment, nearly prompting her to swat it away. but when she’s looking up, the sight of alessandro is calming. the brunette isn’t ever sure if he himself is calming or if it’s because she sees her brother every time——she never lets herself dwell on the question too much. instead once he’s settling next to her, the book is quickly discarded to the side, her own body leaning into his. “ now why would I owe you time ? i’m not the one who set up this elaborate scheme. ” the situation they were in still astonished her but at least she was safely locked away from the plague. “ if ANYONE owes you time, it’s the damn queen that decided to die on everyone. put it on her tab even if she is dead. ”

ever since hye ki had stepped foot in füssenberg, she had felt more restless than ever. she was provided with very limited information about her country’s status, and wanted more than anything to be back in the ‘front lines’, proving herself to her people. so when she entered the room, and the girl’s first words hit her, she simply stared at the princess—it was certainly a bold declaration to make to her, or any royal, really. she let out a small laugh. “ waste is a strong word, but if you are right, at least our bodies are safe while you reach the throne.” hands joined behind her back, she slowly walked around the room. “ why don’t you go more in detail, your highness? you can not leave me hanging, here. ”

catriona is intrigued by the princess, well more so her response. she hadn’t jumped to defend herself, spout useless information at her as to why SHE would be the one to take the crown. giving her a once over, catriona diverts her eyes back to the book set in her lap, the crinkle of the turning page echoing throughout the room. “ you do have a point. ” the safety net that was füssenburg was the ONLY reason she had agreed to this entire thing. “ but if you ask me, most around here don’t know what it takes the be a true leader. i even utter how i will be crowned, and they think it’s a primal time to list everything that makes them more than QUALIFIED. remaining composed is the key you see. ” eyes are firmly locked in on the book she’s feigning interest in, not bothering to look at the other.

five steps forward and three back, all in time with a song that was only playing inside chiara’s head, she made her way through empty halls, clearly lacking purpose for the day. she could only have so many baths drawn, so many elaborate meals delivered, so many timid conversations, playing with the uniforms grew old. the next game was to ACCIDENTALLY find the one person she would purposely seek out. half an hour must have passed before long limbs pass over the right threshold and the sight of catriona triggers a loud exhale. “ LIBERATE ME, ” she groans, falling to her knees beside her companion’s chair. her own joke is eclipsed by cat’s statement, chiara simpering in response. “ oh, mhm ! why do they bother ? especially dressed the way they are… ” she’s teasing the entire group, though there’s a select few targets that stand ahead of rest, “ at least this will all make a great story years from now. ”

it’s the familiar voice and dramatic antic that erases the grimace from her face. it’s replaced by a tinder smile, irises rolling. catriona adored her best friend. not once had the other attempted to manipulate the other during the entirety of their time here. it was a simple friendship——one the brunette cherished greatly. the joke isn’t lost on her; it takes her back to the many nights the two binged the entire series of the borgias. ( fuck ursula to be honest. ) but instead she’s closing the book with a quiet thump and leaning forward an eyebrow perking up. “ have you SEEN that henri ? you think his wardrobe was the opposite of the grinch’s heart——three sizes too BIG. someone really needs to fire his stylist. ” a huff of laughter later, she’s shrugging, the thought of the plague weighing heavily on her mind. “ if we live that is.”

♕ ━━━ the cliche novel bound by tiresome words and pages was the first thing to irritate her. wow, she reads, what a thrill ! juno runs a hand through her hair and lets it hang over her shoulder in front of her face so the other cannot see the vexed sigh. “what is the phrase ?” she wonders aloud, making a mockery of that airy tone. juno can’t remember until she approaches and bends down to meet her narrowed gaze. hers matches tenfold: “in your dreams ?”

catriona wasn’t planning on putting looking towards the girl rather continue to act as if she cared about the words splashed across the page. but when the other is CHALLENGING her, the book is being thrown from her hands onto the empty spot next to her. “ quite the contrary to my dreams actually——i wouldn’t EVEN be here in my dreams but alas. ” giving an insouciant ( a rather fake one ), the smirk on her face only grows. “ do you really believe YOU would win the crown ? what makes you think that is possible ? ”

Never in his life did Maddox ever sit still, he was always on the move, doing something entertaining to him. But here? Here he felt like he was trapped, stuck in this huge place with nothing to do and it honestly drove him up the wall. Which is why he’d made the choice to buy a motorcycle the second day he was there, a way to explore the grounds and everything around where they were staying but in a more fun and possibly dangerous way. Something he rather needed at that moment, making his way through the many rooms as he attempted to make his way outside. However, a voice caused him to stop dead in his tracks, his brow raising at the girl before he rolled his eyes. “Entitlement really goes to all of your heads, doesn’t it?” Maddox asked, crossing his arms over his chest, his helmet dangling on his arm. “Answer this: why in the hell do you think I give a fuck about what you believe? Not only that, why did you stop me thinking I’d agree with you? You’ve got more than enough competition here, Princess, don’t think your life is just some cakewalk, because it won’t be, not anymore.”

it’s the exasperated tone that has her looking to the other with a tight jaw, eyes further narrowing. the title of princess DID NOT make her life a cake walk. living a cushioned life didn’t suddenly make the horrors she had seen, before and after the plague, okay. for a moment, she wonders if she has met her match with this one but probes further. “ well i don’t give a FUCK if you care or believe what i think truth be told. ” noting the helmet swaying on his arm, she’s standing, the book in her hands hitting the table in front of her with a loud smack. with arms crossed over her chest, she’s taking diminutive steps towards him, the smirk gracing her features once again. “ if you’re so uninterested in what i believe, you’re welcome to leave. here’s to hoping you don’t kill yourself before i’m crowned. ”

settled in a chair with a book in her hands, catriona still felt bored. it had settled into her bones, her body restless and on edge. every now and then she would peek up with HOPE that chiara would show up and whisk her away from this state but today obviously wasn’t that day. though, after what felt like HOURS, the brunette’s eyes were finally met someone with someone entering the same room. a malign smirk forms at her lips, eyes narrowing in on the book she was trying to read——this could be a new source of entertainment; well however the person reacted that is. “ it’s quite a shame. ” she says aloud, a small sigh accompanying.  “ all of this is certainly going to be a WASTE of everyone’s precious time considering i’ll be the one getting the crown. ”

hi hello everyone, i’m clarissa ( or salt .. lit i’ll answer to both ) and i wont lie when i say this is the second time im writing this bc the first one got too long and messy like i don’t expect anyone to read all of that ( i’ll just save it for the bio page lmao ) but anywayay let me get on with the intro !

—— a brief history of her country / family ( tw for cancer & death ) .

the lùtairs were fairly new leaders, only assuming the scotland crown four generations ago. their reign was that of tyranny and utter control. they wanted power and nothing else. her parent’s marriage was quite loveless, only taking place to seal two powerful countries together in “harmony”.

when catriona was fifteen, her mother was diagnosed with cancer and lost her battle within a year. upon losing her mother, her and her brother, jamie, lost the only parent who truly loved them. after this, her father began to fill jamie’s head with his plans for the country and said jamie would be the one to achieve said plans within his lifetime. unbeknownst to their father, jamie was planning to overthrow his father with an uprising and ascend the throne, returning scotland to a peaceful country.

he divulged this plan with the people he trusted the most, catriona being one of them but the faith he had in some proved to be displaced and the plans were passed along to their father. while he tried to deny it, the evidence was clear and catriona had to play dumb and watch while her brother was executed.

all of this happened just a year before the plague broke and the already broken scotland turned to ash right before her eyes, her father one of the first to go. first in the line to take the throne without a country to rule, how ironic.

—— but anywayyay, onto other things for now ( more ~interesting~ stuff about scotland will come ) .

first and foremost, she literally does not care about the competition. the only reason she took up the call was to simply honor her mother and brother. they wouldn’t want her to give up a chance to be somewhere safe from the plague because she didn’t want to rule the world ( sadmeme @ scotland ).

but that doesn’t stop her from letting everyone think she’s participating. maybe it’s a past time to her but it’s amusing to watch the other flaunt how much better they are when they’re unaware catriona doesn’t even care if she wins or not.

v blunt, won’t hold back on anything she says, even if it’s harsh. she’ll just shrug it off if she hurts someone’s feeling and not give it a second thought.

however that doesn’t mean she’s aloof—quite the opposite actually. she’s very outgoing and friendly, loving to make conversation with others. it’s only when her lack of filter bites her in the ass and everyone believes she’s a b*tch ( which she lowkey is whoops ).

two random facts are she has a scottish fold named flora, even though she prefers dogs but what can you do and she looooves to read. always has her nose stuck in some book, making notes in the margins and highlighting phrases she wants to remember.

tbh that’s all i can think of rn bc i’m brain ded after class and not getting enough sleep RIP.  but with any character, i’m sure i’ll be adding more / getting a feel for her as a person the more i write. so oo o oo if any of u would like to plot ( yes ik i have mssgs to reply to so dw ), either hmu here or on aim @cesaltare :)
