The Boys of the Blog
(Egad! A girl! Introducing Mars!)
this will be a (hopefully) comprehensive compilation of the faces on this blog
Scooby
gotcha day: sept 25, 2011, est dob ~june 2011
rescue, free mutt
bubba, bugga/bug, scoobert, goober, booger
my childhood dog. he doesn't look (or act) his age most of the time and people tend to think he's a puppy, but he's now half blind and very deaf. he is very chill, but has some crazy food motivation which makes training fun. a dna test said he is a mix of (in order) japanese chin, min pin, miniature poodle, shih tzu, bichon, and chihuahua. (i don't see it.) all in all, he's remarkably sound for a free dog.
Rowan
dob: april 7, 2019
found under a bush, less than 24hr old
Robo. Johnny-Long-Whiskers. The biggest hole in my wallet.
he and his brother were bottle fed neonates. rowan has so many problems. he can be an angry little demon with a serious lack of restraint, and definitely has a few screws loose. he has pica (exploratory surgery nov. 2019 at 6 months, 32 hairties among other things), urinary issues (fully blocked july 2022), and behavioral issues that he takes fluoxetine for. he requires extensive management. he will try to send strangers to the er and hates when i make my bed. i really love this little shithead
River
we lost river at 1:52am, oct 30 2025. he was 6 years old. originally presented to the er on 10/29 as anaphylactic hemoabdomen. unknown to us, he had a lesion that had been developing on his liver for a few months, and we discovered it only once he began to hemorrhage internally and we couldn't get the bleeding to stop. his final diagnosis was liver cancer. he was himself just that morning. i miss him desperately.
leaving this here, unedited, in his memory:

ham, hammie, hambone, hamster, etc etc
the unproblematic fave, the household favorite. so sweet and perfect, an absolute angel. very small and sickly as a kitten so we didn't think he'd make it, and is notably smaller than his brother. he has a sensitive tummy, asthmatic episodes, and a gentle heart of gold. he desperately wants to go outside (they're strictly indoor cats), so he explores the backyard every now and then on harness/leash.
Intriga Stars Align "Mars"
dob: march 18, 2025
gotcha: june 16, 2025
silken windhound, a ponzu puppy
marsy, marceline (the vampire queen), mars bar, marzipan
a wonderful and perfect little puppy, i've dreamt of this for so long. she is chill, easy, intelligent, and so fun to work and hang with. she is already my little buddy and i'm so excited for her to grow into her best self.
Zephyr
dob: ~nov 2023
deceased: march 10, 2025 - dropsy
i really loved this fish and i am devastated that i lost him so young. the dropsy hit and killed him within 24hrs. i had hoped to have him for years to come.
got him on a whim at a reptile convention. he was labeled as a 12-week-old male dumbo halfmoon imported from singapore
i loved his personality. he had beef with the nerite. i liked to spoil him with a large variety of foods. he started out pure white but he was starting to change colors.
i had a mature 5.5 gallon planted shrimp tank that I wanted to do some population control on. he was a mediocre predator bc he got the good stuff from me. he preferred to steal food from the shrimp.
other:
Kaida
a southern alligator lizard that i rehabbed a while ago that now lives behind my garden bed and manages the bugs for me :)
Me, the human
i work in an animal hospital, and my interests (read: autistic hyperfixations) include (in very general terms) the arts, animal medicine, dog sports & conformation, animal nutrition/behavior/training/ethical breeding, sustainable agriculture, the environment, and animal welfare.
