       Oda has tried just about everything to please the cat on his window. sardines, a water bowl, opening the window, trying to shoo him away, anything and everything that comes up in the ex - assassin’s mind ; all to no avail. so now, six hours later, he has pretty much given up on making the cat leave and has now opted for wearing earplugs and ( trying ) to relax on the couch, with a book in hand. 

A book isn’t what Natsume wants to see in Oda Sakunosuke’s hands, per se — he wants a pencil or pen, touching down upon paper ( or rather, a computer, if he really must. ) But reading is one step closer to writing ( one cannot survive without the other ) and this pleases him enough to the extent that he stops yowling — excessively, at least. Instead, he makes his way into Oda’s home, tail flickering to and fro, only to jump onto the man’s lap as if it were his throne. Then the cat stares at Oda insistently.

When you thought you could finally retire and live life as a spoiled kitty in peace, but then your original fail sons try to kill each other and therefore threaten to throw the city you told them to protect into further peril.

“do you know how difficult of a person you are to find, sensei?” ranpo sighs out, though his words are playful as he kneels before the other. in his feline form, as usual, which makes finding him more annoying despite his intellect – it’s a lot of walking. not that he minds it today. the great detective sits down on the concrete, not seeming to care if he gets dirty before reaching inside the bag he’s been carrying on one shoulder. inside it is some dried fish stolen from fukuzawa… who surely won’t mind it if it’s natsume-sensei. “they’re for you! you know he gets the best kind.” and so he sets them down, growing silent for a moment before smiling. “i know i say it every time, but thank you as always, natsume-sensei. for everything. i really can’t say it enough.”

Technically, anyone can find him. 

A salary man, a widow, a young child — anyone, really. It was only those rare few who purposely seeked him out that ran into the unique problem of tracking him down. But of course, if anyone could sniff Natsume out in Yokohama’s sprawling metropolis, it would be Ranpo. Natsume greets the detective ( his eldest son, if you will ) with an enthusiastic mewl — coming up around his legs and rubbing all over, the scent of fish enticing him further. Soulful, human-like eyes stare back and take a break from the feline theatrics however, when Ranpo speaks. In this form, Natsume cannot say “you’re welcome,” but he can climb onto Ranpo’s person and lick his cheek instead — tongue dry and bumpy. Not the most pleasant sensation, but it gets the message across well enough.

he had failed earlier, however he remains sure the cat would be far more grateful with the present he'd come up with. was it strange to give an animal gift ? if so akutagawa cared little as a large red ribbon is tied around the animal's neck along with a full fish presented at its feet. ' now you have been made part of the customary festivities, hana. '

How gently the Port Mafia’s infamous “rabid dog” continues to pamper him. Natsume worries he might grow too comfortable in the other’s presence, forgetting that he is human too — one bound with duties. Ah, if only he could abandon them and truly become a household pet. 

Fat, lazy and spoilt. 

An ideal life, free of worry. 

With a loud mewl of thanks, the cat presses his face into the mafioso’s hand, soft purrs rumbling from his throat. He makes his affection for Akutagawa keenly obvious, because, someone has to. He deserves as much.
