Something brilliant about outlast trials is it uses the natural apathy that comes from playing a video game against the player and to add to characterization and the storytelling.

It uses that “God will this guy die already!” That you get in the game to add to the story. It’s making you realize you’re thinking like our Reagent, Like the Assets.

To add on to my last Outlast post about how the game uses apathy against you, it also used depersonalization against you.

All the victims of the trial are faceless and it’s not because red barrel can’t render non mutilated faces, it’s because an actual face where we can see fear and pain could risk you feeling bad about what you’re doing.

I’m sure out of canon a bit of it is that it’s easier to animate and expressive body than it is a full face with horror and torture.

But in canon it also speaks to how strategic Murkoff is. They lower any chances of their victims being seen as human by the reagents, prime assets and ex-pop because it’s harder to relate and humanize someone if you can’t see their face. Murkoff is terrified of people turning against them or saving the people in the trials so they use psychology against their people.

And Outlast again *lalala* SORRY followers but these sketches just really are easy and fun to make. Basically it’s Mel’s fault because she fans around with me. So yeah.
