A day like today but in 1982, little kid with the same age as me, were fighting for his country to save the Islas Malvinas, or if you are English The Falklands Islands.

So when everybody says “ha ha April’s fool joke”, for me and my country is think about those 649 kids who died.

La guerra, dicen, las pelean los hombres. En la de Malvinas, la sociedad tiene marcada en su memoria el dolor de haber enviado a “los chicos” a realizar el trabajo que deberían haber hecho los profesionales de las armas, ocupados en nuestro país en el genocidio de su propio pueblo. Lo que no se conoce hasta el momento es que además de los jóvenes también tuvo su participación un reducido grupo de mujeres, que se ofrecieron como voluntarias y viajaron hasta las islas para colaborar en lo que pudieran. Es el caso de Silvia Barrera, Susana Mazza, María Marta Lemme, María Cecilia Ricchieri y María Angélica Sendes, cinco enfermeras instrumentistas que viajaron a bordo del Almirante Irízar para participar en la asistencia médica del buque hospital argentino. Las cinco trabajadoras del Hospital Militar recibieron su condecoración como veteranas de guerra, siendo las primeras mujeres en conseguir esa –y cualquier– distinción después de Juana de Azurduy.
