TRIGGERING HEADCANON CONTENT BELOW .

in canon, shelley states, “ever since I was five years old, and i slipped my fingers inside for the very first time. I could do it all day. my mother made me wear mittens to bed.” 

considering this is a very, very young age to be become sexual aware, i find it extremely likely that shelley was sexually abused as a child. 

which adds a layer to tragedy to the line, “men like sex, no one calls them whores.” a grown man took advantage of shelley and was never punished or shamed for his actions, but shelley is seen as morally lesser because of something that sprouted in response to her trauma.

violet has been working VERY HARD to not be bitter with the most of the ghosts of the house. it wasn’t their fault she’d offed herself and besides it’d SUCK to be trapped forever in a house full of people who hated you and she’s already on enough of their bad sides. plus … maria had helped her and her mom during the invasion so … it’s not like she’d be a bad friend to have. “ i don’t really know … i’ve had a lot of other things to think about so i guess it’s been too WEIRD to think about something like being a sister, y’know ?  but i guess there’s something exciting about it … ”

none of the restless residents trapped here have had easy lives  --  it’s what’s LED them all to this fate, an endless cy- cle of reliving over & over memories worse than any NIGHTMARE. but maria feels sorry for violet, a soul so young that did NOT even have her chance to live yet. but this house is merciless & it snuffed violet’s light out WITHOUT any care.

❝   how have you been feeling ?   ❞ it’s a SIMPLE question, but an important one in maria’s eyes. with so many chan- ges & happenings outside of VIOLET’S control, and everyone utterly occupied, the teenager is bound to feel isolated & DISREGARDED.
