Jason put the two tin water bottles in the bag and checked the picnic was all wrapped up. “You ready kuʻu aloha?” He held out his hand towards his? He wasn’t sure what their current label was. The whole situation was a little crazy, but not a bad crazy at all. He’d not felt this happy in a long time, not this in love for a long time, if ever. “The walk I’ve looked into, there’s a little bit of a free climb at the top for our picnic, but there’s also a road around depending on which you’d prefer?” He offered, heading towards garage to get a car to drive to a location. What better date for Valentines day for the two of them than a long hike in the trails. They could have gone for a dinner, or a movie, but this was more them. Much more them, and Jason would never turn to a chance to go for a hike, especially for him and his ku’u aloha. Smile on his face as he opened the door for Nathalie, placing a soft kiss on her lips. “Time to go.” He added as he climbed into the drivers seat.   

Nathalie was quick to accept the hand being offered, eyes wide with excitement. She didn’t know exactly what Jason had planned, but she knew it would be exciting. If there was anyone in this world that knew her better than she knew herself, it was definitely him.           This statement was quickly confirmed by his suggestion. It had been awhile since she celebrated Valentine’s Day. Divorce had a habit of separating someone from a day that celebrated love, but then he came along. Meeting Jason changed everything. It changed her. ‘The climb, of course, mi amor. You know I love a challenge.’ It’s something they’d always had in common. Lips lingered against his for a moment, taking a moment to savour the moment as well as the man before slipping inside their chosen vehicle.

Despite what one would hope leaving behind trauma would work, but it didn’t often work like  that. Life really was a bitch at times. He himself still spent many night remembering that final argument he had, had. The after effects, the scars that have been left by it. “That’s all grand I wont get him.” Jack promised, he wasn’t going to go against the woman’s wishes. “I can always get ya vodka.” He said, leaving for a moment, returning with a bottle from his stash. “Here ya are.” He passed it over.

‘Thank you,’ Nathalie gratefully accepted the drink he’d brought over. It felt strange not immediately seeking Jason out. He was always her go-to whenever she needed comfort. Whenever she needed to feel safe. However, there were certain things her partner-in-crime didn’t know yet and now didn’t seem the right time. Their budding relationship was still so new. Too new to burden him.         Jack seemed to understand that though and while he wasn’t her amor, his presence was oddly reassuring. ‘Do you have glasses or are you happy for me to drink out the bottle? I don’t mind either way.’ It just seemed polite to ask first.
