basically, done right? meh, but I do have to go do some light shopping for that pasta. I'm so excited for it! adding in a can of chopped tomatoes & some beef I have laying around. ugh I'm hungry. why is it only 2:30? boooo.

I haven't posted anything in a while because I might have forgotten about this.
my bad.
HOWEVER. My latest/greatest grocery buy is hands down this jar of pesto I found. Pesto Alla Genovese - again my bad. Probably cost me about $3.00 at most. And I have gotten SO MUCH out of it! Perfect right?
My lunch is going to be eggplant w/ pesto. My last eggplant recipe worked out so well that I went out and got another one. I was always sort of intimidated by eggplant. Why have a vegetable you can't eat raw?

Winemaker's Notes
Deep red color with violet reflections. Pleasant scents of undergrowth fruits and red berry, aromatic. Harmonious and rounded, elegant and concentrated red, ripe fruit, pronounced character.
My Notes
Kind of an Earthy/Spicy vibe to this wine. More of a heavier bodied wine. Reminds me of our trip to Europe when we stayed in Rome for a couple of nights. We went down to kind of a sketch liquor store and grabbed a couple of bottles for like 10 euros. Needless to say, we loved all of them. One we picked up was an Insole Vendemmia Terre Siciliane Nero d'Avola 2012 which was really good considering the price we paid. (after a quick search I see that it is $3.00)
Nero d'Avola
Nero d'Avola (NEH-roe Dah-VOE-lah) Sicilian Style Sicily, the warm island off the coast of Italy, has found its grape hero. Nero d'Avola has long been the indigenous grape variety of the area, but was originally relegated as a blending agent to add color and body to other wines of the region. In the past few decades, Nero d'Avola has come into its own, bringing Sicily well-deserved winemaking recognition.
Notable Facts Also known as Calabrese, Nero d'Avola has become the most popular grape grown in Sicily, making wines from 100% of the variety rather than blended. Its wines are dark in color, big in fruit flavors, well-suited for oak and able to age for quite a few years, although most are good drinking upon release too.

Valentine's Day
Okay, so this might be my favorite holiday. Who doesn't love a day, practically, devoted to the color pink and hearts and all things girly?
Top things that made my Valentine's Day: 1. Bacon Maple Donuts. Don't knock them until you try them. (so good) 2. Coffee from my adorable mug from Target 3. Finding a wine that reminds me of our Euro-trip 4. Surf and Turf 5. New candle 6. Cougar Town My next couple posts will be reviewing a lot of these :) so enjoy!
Mazzolino (Little Brother Bonarda)
This delicious Bonarda (Croatina) wine is a dry heavy-ish bodied red. Pairs well with heartier meats and, of all things, almonds! The wine is made by Tenuta Mazzolino from the Lombardy region of Italy. I was able to pick up a bottle of this for a reasonable price by working at Wollersheim Winery. Our wine maker's brother is the owner of Tenuta Mazzolino. Fun fact, right?
Maybe some day I'll actually make up a strategy to writing wine reviews, but for now my candidness of this will have to work.
groceries!
groceries are probably my favorite thing to go shopping for. however, i had no idea how crazy stores are on sunday until this morning.
my favorite buy today:
miso ginger broth. $1.99 at Trader Joe's yep. its delicious. of course i had to come home and make up some quick miso soup. (broth, mushrooms, tofu, scallions)
I had this discussion with someone at the Winery today. One of the customers was jokingly saying that their friend comes over at noon and pours a glass. My response "Well.. you can have champagne for brunch. So I don't see why not."

Tenuta Mazzolino Blanc de Blanc
This sparkling dry chardonnay is delicious. A little spendy. But what do you really expect from an Italian sparkling wine? Very fruit forward kind of a tropical flavoring to it.
recommended? absolutely. I saw it for sale at $22
