◌ bubble tea
jaehyun couldn’t believe that last night’s events actually happened. first of all, he was enclosed in an alley with a random girl, bodies stuck together. he even called the girl cute. this was all too much for jaehyun, a boy who doesn’t know much about love. well it isn’t love, jaehyun thinks, a pink tint covering his cheeks. interest, maybe?
second of all, he was chased by the police. throughout the day that thought was replaced with the detail that he was with a girl. blood would start to rise to his cheeks and he would ignore the thought for a while, only to repeat it a few moments later.
fingers wrapped around the plastic cup containing his bubble tea, he stares at the empty seat in front of him. he shakes his legs as he impatiently waits for eunwoo. although he doesn’t notice it, the mystery girl must’ve left quite an impact on him. such an impact that it caused him to text “cafe, now” to his best friend ten times. he hopes that eunwoo wouldn’t run into the cafe, expecting a grandiose announcement, only to be greeted with a story about a girl and an extra-large cup of milk tea.
jaehyun was never urgent. so, eunwoo was frantic. already, he was staring at the sum of his previous paycheck, calculating how much money he could wire to his best friend. his troubled thoughts were imagining hospital bills and somber news and a tidal wave of tears — the latter item belonging to eunwoo, of course. sometimes he wondered if he was in his right mind to befriend a human. it was senseless to care for someone so perishable. but he did.
he was sweating a little when he burst through the doors of their favorite bubble tea joint. eyes darted from table to table, searching for his one spitting image. he found it. maybe he looked irked, but he immediately went into overbearing mother mode. “are you okay? are you hurt anywhere?” eunwoo fretted, poring over jaehyun’s body instead of sitting down. his heart settled when he couldn’t find any gaping holes or ugly scratches.
finally, he sat. “what’s the matter?” eunwoo was still frowning. maybe jaehyun was sick on the inside. his stomach curled in displeasure at the mere thought, so he pushed it away. instead, he reached for the drink to distract himself. it was just like him to get all worked up over nothing. this was probably some prank. if it was, eunwoo vowed to block this jerk’s number and never speak to him again.
