Short film competition: First Love
ffresh is working together with S4C to find 5 young filmmakers to create short films on the theme of first love. The short films can be fictional, documentaries, experimental, or visual poems and must be exactly 3 minutes in length. All the short films must be delivered through the Welsh language.
The 5 short films will premiere at ffresh 2013, which takes place at Glyndŵr University in Wrexham from February 20th – 23rd and will feature on S4C’s Y Lle. The five selected entrants will be offered guidance from ffresh throughout the production process and be given a £400 cash prize.
Producer Scherry Jones from Antena, the production company behind Y Lle, said “Everyone remembers their first love. It could be a person, a pet, a toy or anything else that people remember falling head over heels for. We’re delighted to be working with ffresh to find five young filmmakers to bring these stories of first love to life in an interesting, original, and engaging way”.
Garffild Lloyd Lewis, S4C Director of Communications, Marketing and Partnerships, added, “This competition marks the second collaboration between S4C and ffresh to support young filmmakers and give them an opportunity to have their work broadcast. Both ffresh and Y Lle play an important role in fostering new talent in Wales, which is at the heart of S4C. I look forward to seeing the finished films and the emergence of a new wave of filmmaking talent in Wales.”
To enter the competition you must be a resident of Wales aged between 16 to 25 and have access to a HD moving image camera and editing equipment. You will need to submit a one page treatment outlining your idea to ffresh Festival Director James Nee at [email protected] and include any examples of moving image or still photography work. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, October 31st.
The five chosen entrants will be notified by Monday, November 5th. The next stage will involve the selected filmmakers working with ffresh to deliver the short films to industry broadcast standards. The delivery dates for the completed short films is Friday, February 1st.

ffresh has launched a competition for students in Wales to create the artwork for our 10th anniversary festival. Here’s the artwork for ffresh 2008 designed by Jon Pountney & Simon Profitt.
In light of our competition to design for artwork for our 10th anniversary festival here’s a selection of some our favourite festival posters from across the globe. First up is a typography orientated poster based on Nosferatu designed by David Haigh for a D&AD horror film festival competition.

Just been sent a link to this from one of our amazingly talented ex-students, now working in London. Some great visuals created for projection mapping. Shame it didn’t happen. Exciting times for Motion Graphics though!
Posters. Beautiful lovely minimal posters. I think I might just have to do a few.

An example of the PechaKucha presentation style that was created in Tokyo back in 2003. The format basically follows 20 slides, each one lasting for 20 seconds.
This video is from a presentation that was held in my home town of Bristol, UK.
My first group project for uni is to help create a Pecha Kucha style presentation which will be presented on Wednesday 3rd October 2012.
