i absolutely adore your vocaloid au (and am defo going to make fanart of it) but i know fucking Nothing about vocaloid other than the fact that Miku exists and is cool. you seem super into it and i've been getting progressively more curious about all of it, i was wondering if you had any recommendations for good places to start for someone who wants to get into vocaloid? (apologies if someone already asked this and i missed it!) thanks!
Oh my god, that makes me so happy to hear!! Both that you're enjoying the AU and thinking about exploring Vocaloid more! The world of Vocal Synths is so huge that there's not really a correct place to start, but I would love to give some recommendations based on genre and other preferences! Also I made a big post here about some of my personal favorites if you want my playlists and opinions.
The thing about Vocaloid is that it's not a genre of music, its more like an instrument! There are Vocaloid creators of all kinds of styles, so if you don't know where to start its always a good bet look at what you already like. Some general producers I usually recommend are Deco 27* and Pinnochio-P. Both are active and prolific creators with J-Pop/J-Rock styles that you'll see a lot in the space. Good place to get a feel of what you might find.
If you like cutesy upbeat songs I would recommend Mitchie M and OSTER Project! Mitchie M is a bit more electro-pop whereas OSTER Project has a jazzier vibe.
If you're looking for a spookier sound I would recommend Kikuo and Materu. Its a bit hard to describe their genres but you'll get the vibe from listening to a couple songs.
If you like rock I'd say Neru, Kemu Voxx, and Wowaka are great choices. The first two aren't very active and Wowaka has sadly passed away but all three have amazing backlogs with very iconic songs!! Especially Wowaka, very important to the community.
If you want English songs a great place to start is FLAVOR FOLEY! They're a very popular group right now comprised of three creators: Jamie Page, Vane Lily, and Rice Deity. Their songs tend to go pretty viral in the community, every new drop is like an event lmao. They just released the song Ego Renegade Boy if you want something recent. I'm not the most up-to-date on the english community but I'm sure there are tons of people with great recommendations! Though I do have one creator I seriously love, if you're into the sort of grungy indie rock vibe I highly recommend the artist ippo.tsk!
If you're curious about some more classic songs I would check out the setlist from the Project Diva series! Its a rhythm game that has a lot of iconic tracks from the 2010s.
There can be a lot to comb through, even with specific artists, so honestly I would recommend checking out their most popular stuff! Obviously popular doesn't automatically make it the best but that's usually a less overwhelming approach than jumping in blindly, at least in my opinon. To be honest as a kid I just clicked YouTube vids with pretty thumbnails lmao. If you want specific song suggestions I can give that too, or you can check out my playlists linked in the other post!
Also if you see the initials SV that stands for Syntheziser V. Its another program like Vocaloid that people use to make songs! Some others you might see are UTAU and CeVio. All of these are the same concept, just different companies with their own voices. There's a lot of overlap in the communities, lots of producers use a mix of these!
Sorry for the long post, if you have any more questions don't be afraid to ask! Obviously this is only scratching the surface but I think it's a good place to start! Also I know I talk about all these different characters and voicebanks but there's absolutely no need to learn about every single one! There are over 100 Vocaloids, even more with all the newer programs coming out. Just find what you like, that's all that matters! If that's just Miku that's perfectly fine! Best of luck anon!! I hope you have fun with it :)
i’mm inn love with your vocaloid au i nneed mmore please
Thank you so much!! Not gonna lie i mighttt have to slow down on the art for a bit cause im working on school and personal projects, but im always down to chat about it if anyone wants to!
Your davekats bring me so much joy <3
Thank you so much!!! They thank you too
whats that thing where you feel like youre not special you just copy others and you have nothing unique about you because all of your personality and interests youve stolen from new and old friends and youre stuck in a loop of trying to mimic others to seem like an actual person conciously or unconciously but continiously feeling like youre just a copycat that has nothing more to themself beyond others influence
