RYAP 2017 Opening night
In case you missed the announcement we’ll be exhibiting our works from CC X CCP 2017 along with performances from the students in the other half of the RYAP program that have been working with Dancehouse for the past 10 weeks.
6pm 20th of September at Fitzroy Town Hall!
Check back in again soon to see the mini-documentary of out project!
Week 10
We had an additional selection of the exhibition works printed and the wonderful Strange Neighbour has generously lent us their walls for surprise guerrilla paste-up exhibition today! Check it out before the spring rains wash them all away - corner of Gore and Kerr Streets in Fitzroy.

CC X CCP 2017 Exhibition
CC X CCP 2017 is nearly print ready!
A very large thank you to Colour Factory for sponsoring the printing of our exhibition!
Week 9
We finished selecting our exhibition images today and took a walk to an amazing spot in Fitzroy where the street art is at it’s finest - when we got there we discussed environmental portraiture using natural and artificial light and explored how the environment can add to our visual stories. We even had a Freddy Kruger reenactment!

Week 7/8
We’re beginning to edit and curate our show - CC X CCP 2017 - super excited!
All welcome - we hope to see you there!
Many thanks to CC X CCP 2017 student Ash Bloom for the wonderful image used on our invitation, and to Ninpo Design for putting it together.
Week 6
Today marks the beginning of a collaboration - CC X CCP 2017 meets Dance Maker James Welsby and his Collingwood College dance students (the other half of RYAP 2017) to start producing our end of program show.

Week 5
This week we’re going on an adventure with light and colour, well two adventures actually- how to set up and light a miniature home studio and how to create artificial light portraits. We’ll be asking ourselves how objects, colour and light can be used to generate meaning in an image.
To find inspiration in our miniature studio’s we’ll be looking at Belarusian photographer Alexandra Soldatova,

the American fashion photographer Clifford Coffin,

Polish artist Marta Zgierska,

and for our portraits we’ll be looking at German born New York based Martin Schoeller,
Joseph Mosner, 2004 © Martin Schoeller
Stockholm based photographic artist Julia Peirone,
Signe, 2010 © Julia Peirone
and more works from the National Portrait Gallery’s National Photographic Portrait Prize.
Week 4
This week we delved deeper into editing and looked at a simple post-production workflow using Adobe Photoshop Express and Adobe Photoshop Mix.
I’m constantly amazed by how far the students are pushing their photography and visual storytelling!
Another brief selection of their great work-

Week 3
Photomontage holds a rich history in visual and photographic art. For more than a century the technique has been used as a visual means of expressing political dissent, to highlight or create connections between otherwise distinct subject matter or to create altogether entirely unique compositions.
We looked at German artist Hannah Höch,
Kleine Sonne (Little Sun), 1969 © Hannah Höch
British artist John Stezaker,
Visitation, 2007 © John Stezaker
and American artist Jesse Treece,
The Light At The End, 2017 © Jesse Treece
week 3
What we do as photographers and visual storytellers when we have a camera in our hands is only half the process we go through to complete a photograph. Composition and shooting the one hand, then editing and post production on the other. Over the next two weeks Alexander and the students will delve into post-production and, to keep the creativity flowing will get creative with digital photomontage!
week 2
Understanding the relationship between a person, how they present themselves, how they’re photographed and the environment they’re photographed in is the key to making a portrait with impact - a portrait that tells a story about the sitter. This week we took inspiration from some of the shortlisted entries for the National Photographic Portrait Prize.

week 2
This week we delved deeper into visual storytelling - environmental portraiture. How people and place can come together in an image to tell deeper and more meaningful stories.
We experimented with body language, expression and how they can convey emotion in portraits,
and braved the (now oh so sunny!) streets of Fitzroy again to make some environmental portraits of our own.

The students are really pushing themselves and some of their work will be appearing here over the next few weeks!
