Coronavirus updates: China ridicules efforts to make it pay coronavirus compensation, NY deaths fall to lowest level since March - CNBC
Research has shown that organs at risk because of Covid-19 are not only the lungs but also the heart, kidneys, eyes and part of the intestine.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in our country, doctors have repeatedly urged us to take special care of the hygiene of our hands, urging us not to touch the nose, mouth and eyes, possible ways into our body for the virus.
The study
Thanks to a study conducted by researchers at the University of Singapore, led by Yuin-Han Loh, published on medRxiv, the site hosting the work awaiting screening by the scientific community, the gateway to the new coronavirus was discovered through the eyes. It is a group of corneal and conjunctiva cells that have a high concentration of Ace2, the receptor used by the virus to enter human cells. The discovery of the Ace2 receptor on some cells of the eye shows what has long been suspected that the virus is able to enter the human body through direct or indirect contact with the mucous membranes of the eye and is able to infect the cells of the conjunctiva.
Other research
During this period, several studies have focused on examining the Ace2 receptor genes and proteins present in various tissues and organs to identify those at risk of Covid-19 infection, looking for specific cells that can be used as targets by the virus. It thus emerged that the organs at risk are not only the lungs, but also the heart, kidneys and part of the intestine (the ileum).
