BIOGRAPHY
The Ashford clan had a reputation. Widely known as one of the major political dynasties on the East Coast, the family was famous for their influence, known for relentless ambition, and infamous for the ruthlessness with which they pursued their goals. And yet, they were perhaps most renowned for how well they managed to maintain a clean slate. Barely any political scandals seemed to cross their way - a quality that, to anyone with a knowledge of how political machinations were working, really could only mask one fact: The Ashfords knew how to make their scandals disappear. Nobody made it to the top of the societal hierarchy without getting their hands dirty, but some, like the Ashfords, were masters at washing the blood off.
Despite that ugly truth, at first glance the clan did quite a good job at looking the part of the picture-perfect American family, the type of people everybody would want in a position of power. Cedric Ashford III, like his father and grandfather before him, was a brilliant lawyer, leaving the family-owned firm only as he was appointed U.S. Attorney for Virginia’s Eastern District. Meanwhile, his wife Eleanore was a charismatic, determined and ambitious politician. She had worked her way up from a middle-class background, getting a scholarship into Yale where she met her future husband, and eventually made it to the office of a Virginia state senator, though her ambitions laid much further up the line. Even eventually running for Governor was going to be just one step, while Eleanore had her eyes set on the ultimate position of power: Becoming the first female U.S. President. The embodiment of a power couple, and of course also blessed with their very own golden boy: Their son, Cedric Ashford IV. From a young age, Cedric had been a dream come true for any photographer trying to capture a worthy snapshot of the political powerhouse that was the Ashford clan. Blonde locks, blue eyes, angelic features and a bright smile, he seemed to fit perfectly into the image of the proper yet progressive agenda that his family stood for. Politically powerful, yet relatable - the type of person everybody could trust. Of course, things were never quite that picture-perfect behind the scenes. While he’d been quite a well-mannered boy growing up, benefitting from the best education money could buy, Cedric began to indulge more and more into the luxuries and the more hedonistic benefits his life and family background offered him as he grew from puberty into adulthood. His sexual orientation was never an issue; in fact, Eleanore even made a point of having him attend senior prom with a boy as his date, the resulting paparazzi photos gaining her favor with the growing liberal basis among voters. Of course the photographers never witnessed Cedric being passed around by his date’s friends after the party, or how he got high on party pills and shots.
College only was a further escalation of his antics. Cedric majored in law, destined to one day step into his father’s footsteps, but instead of attending classes most of the time, he learned one much more important lesson: Money could get you virtually anything if you had enough of it. The young Ashford paid classmates to do his schoolwork, organized lavish and excessive parties, and even made use of his parents’ more covert contacts to provide himself and his friends with anything they might need to unwind. Cedric knew his father had numerous high-profile clients - ones that often were on the opposite side of the courtroom now that he’d become State Attorney. From simple drug dealers to mobsters, the youngest Ashford put his charms and communication skills to use and maintained close relations with many of those men - and his mother’s “fixers” she liked to hire to make problems go away -, using both money and sex as means to get whatever he needed. His lifestyle became more and more excessive, plus much less well-hidden, and by the time he finished law school and got hired into his family’s law firm as a Junior Associate, Cedric’s playboy antics were the most open of secrets.
He barely showed up at the firm, a fact that none of his coworkers seemed to regret; instead he partied, sometimes for days at a time, turning his city loft into a den of orgies and drug-infueled ecstasy. Drunk college kids and horny businessmen would get high and wild side-by-side, and eventually, even his parents’ political associates got seduced by Cedric’s alluring web of sex, money and everything else their hearts desired. It was the dirtiest, yet worst-kept secret his family had to offer, and yet none of it appeared to cast a shadow on his mother’s ambitions for governorship and presidency, or his father’s goal to be appointed to the Supreme Court. Until, one day, Cedric crossed a line.
Criminals and sex-crazed businessmen were one thing - none of those had an interest in foiling the Ashford’s ambitions - but his mother’s political opponent was a different story. And yet, Eleanore’s major competitor in the race for the governorship was Cedric’s latest conquest. The sex was not even remarkable - good, but nothing special among the numerous men he’d had - and yet the consequences were without comparison. Days after the encounter, video footage somehow made its way to the press. Both political parties would be harmed, but Eleanore seemed to clearly suffer the bulk of the backlash from the public upon seeing her son getting absolutely ravished by her opponent in the most filthy and primal ways, like a depraved whore. The Ashfords realized they had let their son roam freely for much too long, and that money alone was not going to fix the problem anymore now. So instead, they cut Cedric’s funds, disowning him immediately and contacting a certain Thomas and Alexander King, in hopes of finding assistance in making the issue disappear.
The best solution, they came to agree, was to shift the public attitude towards the Ashfords from disdain to sympathy - turn a scandal into a tragedy. Nobody would judge a young man for his excessive ways if he suddenly passed, or even think about his parents’ apparent hipocrisy after they just lost their only child. Hearing those plans, Cedric was concerned for a moment that his now-estranged parents might actually consider having him killed. Though while he was well aware that they had access to all sorts of criminal contacts, he realized what saved his life was not their endearment for their son, but the risk of having a literal skeleton in their closet. So instead, the Kings staged a car crash, instigating an accident that left behind nothing but a fiery wreck, with no remains to be found but ashes. The tragic end of Cedric Ashford IV.
Meanwhile, Cedric Morris found himself at the Haus of Perses. Quite a fall from grace - he’d lost his name, his money, his identity. Overall he knew he should be glad to be alive, even though the world believed the opposite. He wasn’t able to attend his own funeral, though he read about it in the papers, next to his mother’s poll numbers resurging. Sympathy votes. Cedric couldn’t care less - politics were no longer his concern, at least not in that way. But he knew he still was spoiled enough to know what he wanted. And he still had been blessed with the determination and ambition that ran in his blood. If money wasn’t an option, sex would be his tool to scheme and bend others to his will - in that way, maybe ending up working at a whorehouse was a blessing in disguise. The only problem, of course, was the Kings and their watchful eyes on him; Cedric was well aware that he was almost literally their possession. To the world, he was dead - to the Kings, at best a tool. But as the resort moved away from his family’s vacinity, Cedric realized he wasn’t willing to be used - not truly. Not when in reality, he was going to use his assets to meet his own needs, not those of his employers, clients, or parents.
