they're trying to deduce who drank the last of iris' favorite tea
let us engage in the art of deduction, my dear iris!
Expanding on this thought from last night, but my preferred reading of Herlock Sholmes as a character is that he is simultaneously the smartest and dumbest person in the room at any given time
The Dances of Deduction in 1-2 and 2-5 both have moments where he says something to the effect of "this is no time for jokes/distractions", after which he makes correct deductions every single time -- this is especially notable in 1-2 where every deduction he had made up until that point had been wrong. In 2-4, when Ryunosuke & Susato were about to end that case's Dance of Deduction, Sholmes encouraged them to keep going because there was still one aspect of the mystery they hadn't unravelled yet. These moments all carry the implication that Sholmes has in fact correctly deduced what happened in every scene he walks into, but is giving wrong deductions on purpose in order to mess with Ryunosuke and/or encourage him (+ Susato) to learn how to make deductions of their own.
However. He is still the kind of person who hangs off of coat hooks, and who mistakes violas for violins, and who pretends to be a wax sculpture of himself, and who accidentally dyes his hair blue.
I don't think Sholmes believed for a second that Shamspeare ate poisoned soap, but I do 100% believe that he has eaten soap himself just to see what would happen. Do you see my vision
