There are a number of spooky tales from Louisiana, but one of the most enthralling is that of Manchac Swamp. First of all, Manchac is rumoured to be haunted. It’s also rumoured to be the haunt of Rougarou, the Cajun werewolf. As well as that, it’s said to be haunted by Julia Brown, a once practising voodoo priestess, who put a curse on the entire town the day she died. Legend says that on the day of her funeral in 1915, a deadly hurricane ripped through the town, destroying three villages and killing a number of people. A number of curious visitors to the swamp have reported hearing shrill screams from a disembodied woman.
Paul Posey was known to be a sadistic man and abusive father. He lived with his wife, Tyrone, in Chavez Canyon Ranch, Hondo, New Mexico, along with his 14-year-old son, Cody, and his stepdaughter. Paul and his wife tormented Cody physically and emotionally on a daily basis. One time, Cody was summoned to his parents’ bedroom where Tyrone awaited on the bed, completely nude. He was ordered to have sex with her as his father watched, but Cody flat-out refused. The boy was finally pushed to the edge when he was hit and berated the next day. He fetched a shotgun and walked behind the couch where his stepmother was sitting, firing twice at the back of her head. His father and stepsister rushed into the house to see what was going on and they, too, were blasted to death. Cody used a backhoe to bury the corpses of his family in a massive pile of manure where he felt they belonged. He eventually confessed to the crime and spent his sentence in juvie until his 21st birthday, when he walked out a free man.
Chilling interview with Zachary Davis, who, at 15-years-old brutally bludgeoned his mother to death with a sledgehammer. On 10 August, 2012, Zachary entered the bedroom of his 46-year-old mother, Melanie, while she slept and bludgeoned her with a sledgehammer 12 times. He then set fire to the house with his older brother, Josh, sleeping inside. He then fled the scene. His older brother managed to escape the blaze, much to Zachary’s dismay - he later said “I would probably kill Josh with a sledgehammer too.” Zachary hastily confessed to the brutal murder - “I killed Melanie and left Josh alone to suffer… I didn’t feel anything… I didn’t feel remorse… My only true regret was that I didn’t give her a faster death. I didn’t want her to suffer.” He reported that his brother Josh had raped him but investigation found no evidence to support this claim and he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

During the early 20th century, paper moon photo shoots were a common, inexpensive souvenir at fairs, carnivals, etc. This one is most likely c. 1920s-1930s. Poor guy. (via)
