got my new pc arriving tomorrow and honestly i doubt i will be using linux on this build, i kind of just want to play on windows with the patch and hope for the best, mainly because i find it kind of annoying having to boot into an entirely different OS just to play for 30 mins lol

haven't been playing the game for ages now, and I realised I don't feel motivated to open my game because I have the world's worst cc hoarding problem which makes my game take too long to load, so I'm gonna try out a minimalistic cc style, focusing on addons and maxis recolours.

most of the time I use like 12gb of object cc, most which I never use...

You converting the nose shadow for sims 2, is literally something I’ve been wanting for so long but never thought someone would do! I was curious if you ever thought of converting jo_se_oh’s lighting overlays from the Sims 4? I imagine it would be a lot more difficult so I understand if this has never crossed your mind.

when i converted the nose one, it originally was apart of a set including joseoh lighting overlays. they didnt really gel well with the sims 2 as it required actual recolouring to suit each and every sims 2 skintone (and theres like. a lot. if i were to recolour all of those overlays it would probably take 5 pages of your facepaint category lol.

that said tho, i have been investigating and figuring out possibilities of overlays for sims2 just how they work in sims 4

my take on the GOS stuff is that for the past two months I have been trying to keep in the know about the state of GOS since me and my friend group love GOS. i can tell you truthfully that HL tumblr was down for at least two months because we were all confused as to what was going on as there was no information from hugelunatic and I was checking their blog religiously for updates, and they were scarce.

if the situation was so dire, Hugelunatic should have reached out. There is no, oh maybe they did, because how the fuck can we tell when they delete their only universal form of communication with the community months before the site died. and their last post we can see on the internet archive states no technical problems, only hosting costs

why? how are we supposed to understand the situation, how are we supposed to help if you apparently vague post about the situation, and then deleted your blog soon after. everyone is rushing to their defense and I get it but this is what we have seen from HL so far,

vague posts about the status of gos

no communication over discord either after their blog was gone (HL is in a couple of large servers, I see them in some I am either in or was in)

the deletion of their tumblr with no heads up

mts replies showing zero compassion or care towards the fact they were basically holding other peoples cc and information hostage for months and did not once reach out. if they did, it definitely was not clear enough as we wouldn't be in this situation.

if hugelunatic cared about the future of GOS there would have been so many posts everywhere about it and people would have scrambled to help. look how the mediafire purge got everyone panicking and moving. why did we not care enough for GOS?

i have some proof GOS was stable back in february

but on hugelunatic tumblr, last ever snapshot on the archive the month after, Hugelunatic states the site is okay, just to disable adblock.

all HL said was to disable adblock to fund the site. the main issue they point out here was they needed a liiiittle bit of help funding because thats what you do with a forum made for the love of the community. there was no indication whatsoever that there were huge technical problems that would inevitably lead to site closure.

had we have known this, there would have been archival efforts everywhere. sadly that is not the case and we are left with only content up to 2023/4 on the internet archive.

also, the fact HL states that the wayback machine should be the best bet, not everyone uses a plugin that saves pages. so stuff is still lost regardless.

tldr i think HL should have stated it had gotten to a point where inevitably the site would close. if they had, the internet archive did not save a post saying this and their tumblr was gone quickly in the time period from march until now. the community is known for its heavy archival efforts and the fact we never got a chance to archive sucks

There are still efforts going on behind the scenes to get GOS back online (and Sims 2 Artists).

New hosting has been secured. The website php needs upgrading and this has not been working, but people are still working on it.

I know its hard when things happen and you don't know what's going on. But please, everyone, just calm down. Instead of panicking, jumping to conclusions, making angry posts, just chill, wait, breathe. Be kind, ask what's happening without getting mad.

And please, remember kindness and empathy. Lunie has been trying to update GOS for months, and she is exhausted. It's down right now, but not dead (yet).

im sure ur intentions r good but talking down to ppl in this tone rly isnt it, we're not unruly toddlers in need of the calm and collected adults to come in and explain the situation to us, we understand perfectly well what happened and how and we're not into it. we have every right to be upset at how badly this was bungled

this whole post is a gr8 example of the kind of fake high-ground toxic positivity that leads to situations like these developing in niche communities in the first place, bc some ppl are deemed to have 'offered so much' that ANY criticism of them no matter how valid is summarily dismissed w 'remember kindness and empathy'

kindness and empathy go both ways. where were the calls for kindness and empathy when @simnostalgia thankfully had the foresight to do his gos back up and got a hate train in response? why exactly does HL by default deserve our 'kindness and empathy' when their response has been nothing but dismissive and rude af?

this community is incredibly supportive and if any of this had been communicated properly the (frankly disproportionate to the size of the comm) amount of rly gifted programmers we have would have immediately offered to help and everyone else would have donated money and time to help back up and archive etc

ive been here 10y and have never once participated in drama or any kind of hate train, i was just abt the only person defending paywallers a few years back bc im so uncomfortable w everyone ganging up on one person, but thats literally not whats happening here at all. this is a lot of us being rightfully concerned that 1 person apparently can go rogue and hold smth that is a legit communal property hostage. i dont even care if gos is restored at this point but im rly over this kind of condescending attitude that is endemic around here

There is an "Imgur Unblock" Extension for Firefox that actually makes the images load normally!!! I discovered it recently and it has been an absolute life-saver. Otherwise, I was using free Proton VPN before. :) Hope this helps someone!

sadly GOS is now gone which is a huge loss. gos hosted lots of events over the years and brought so much content along with it. for years it was not as active, which is a shame, and now its no longer here.

this is gonna be really difficult as a lot of cc on GoS was usually only ever shared on GoS and nowhere else

Usually never post real life personal stuff here but I have to share this since it's so fucking BIZARRE

My dad was chilling at home, and suddenly this police lady knocks on the door. Apparently, a neighbour reported my dad because they had "concerns" as one of our seven cats was climbing the already ripped up net curtains

...The police came out over a cat

The only cats in the living room at the time were both of our orange cats, so this snooping neighbour has seen my orange cat behaving orange and reported it. Actual gimp. It's also really awkward at the same time because my dad is a super anxious person so now he has the fact the police came to his house on his mind and also the fact that there's a nosey neighbour watching our house which is fab.

Still, who tf is calling the police because they saw a cat climb a curtain. Cats do that sort of shit lmfao. But more importantly why are the police responding to these calls and not actual important things like home invasions or something
