Dawn hammers in the last nail into the soil that’s just steady enough to not give way. Alright, so far so good. Last time she set up a tent, it flipped over in the middle of the night. Many assume her to be a proficient camper since stargazing often calls for basic survival skills if one were to scale a mountain, but she’s far from being even remotely fit to take on all the tasks.
For example, she’s deathly scared of lighting a fire.
So when she sees the flickering of light on the two trees next to her, she’s more than relieved. No embarrassing herself in front of the Sinnoh champion now, oh no. Dawn’s cheeks heat up just from imagining the conversation that will probably expose more about her insecurities than she’d ever wish to.
After passing the water over to Cynthia, she lets out her Pokemon from their balls. Some stretching will probably do them good. She watches Kyuu (Froslass) disappear off into the surrounding woods.
“We’ll have plenty of time to scale the rest of the mountain tomorrow. For now, it’s time to relax. So tell me Dawn, what have you been up to as of late?” Cynthia asks once they’ve settled down around the campfire.
“I’ve been wandering around a little recently; you know, revisiting some of the cliffs and mountains that I didn’t get to really explore years ago. I’ve also taken a liking to breeding Pokemon and hatching eggs. It’s…surprisingly therapeutic?” She hopes Cynthia wouldn’t judge her for the past time she has recently discovered that she needed all along. Hatching eggs is sentimental yet mindless to her, relieving her of the slightly stressful days of battling. Not that she doesn’t enjoy training and battling, of course, but everyone deserves a break once in a while. Especially when you’re an inwardly competitive freak (like Dawn).
Dawn leans back a little to reach for her backpack. She grabs canned soup and tosses Cynthia the bread. Azure (Lucario) takes the can from Dawn, cutting it open easily, then busies herself with pouring the contents into a pot of water and heating it. She’s got an affinity for cooking, that one.
Dawn turns back to Cynthia.
“What about you? Been up to any myth hunting lately?”
Cynthia had been taking drinks of the water that Dawn had handed her, feeling a bit parched after their hike today. It was certainly nice to just be out in the wilderness, hiking with someone she cared for. Dawn was always someone that fascinated Cynthia. Her skills in battle were impressive, and there was always this passion behind everything, even if it was buried beneath something else.
As the two sat around the fire, the Champion listened to what Dawn had been up to lately. Hatching eggs…so she had found a passion for Pokemon breeding. Admittedly, she had never attempted the art, instead busied herself with ancient texts and various dusty artifacts. She preferred cave exploration and what came with it, danger. But she had always been just a little bit of a careless hunter in that regard. Danger held no meaning, not when she was off hunting. “You know I’ve heard that too. I’m glad you’ve found something you love! It’s important to have that in your life, less you be a slave to work.” Like she was one to talk.
Snapping herself out of her train of thought with a bread tossed in her direction, reflex kicked in and she snatched it from the air, beginning to prep it for their meal. Dawn had busied herself with soup preparations. There were many things she wanted to know about Dawn, but she was sure she would learn in time.
As for her recent myth hunts…well…there was always some form of tale to be told. Cynthia was always going off on escapades to potential trails. “Oh! Well actually something rather fascinating happened recently. I found a very very old cave system, that held the Azure Flute! I couldn’t believe my eyes! It’s currently in the museum and that’s my current project to research. I’m very curious to see what secrets wait for me at the end of this project. Well anyway…I have to say, I didn’t know you were a cook too, Dawn. You’re a woman of many talents I see.”
